...I had a doctors ap[pointment today...I am 36 weeks and 1 day pregnant and I had high blood pressure and protein in my urine so my doc told me to monitor blood pressure and let her know if it is high! because I could have preeclampsia
Normal is (top number)110-120 over (bottom number) 70-80
I went and bought a $40 BP cuff at target cuz I had a gift card and I have taken BP 6 times and every time it was high...Scared but dont know what to do I really dont like bothering the doctors office cuz the last two times I went in(not today but at 32 weeks and at 34 weeka for BH contractions they always send me home) WHAT SHOULD I DO!!!????

How high was it? If it is over 140/90 you need to call your doc ASAP!!

I would reccomend calling your doctor if you are at all concerned. That is what we pay them for! As an alternative, you could call a nurse hotline if your insurance provides one. Let us know how it turns out!

Yes, definitely call your doctor. They didn't give you something to monitor your blood pressure with? You had to go buy something? Because that's a little iffy. I've had borderline high blood pressure since July with no other symptoms of pre-eclampsia. My doctor made me do a 24 hour urine sample to check protein levels, and put me on blood pressure medicine. While they more than likely will just deliver you if they feel you do have pre-eclampsia, I'm a little surprised they didn't look into it a little more.

Ya, that is really weird they didn't look into more. If she had protein in her urine AND high blood pressure, that would be a red flag for most doctors to do some more testing!!

How high was the BP? Protein in the urine should have had you sent to L&D for monitoring. My pressure was 190/109 with protein in my urine and they sent me to L&D. The monitored my daughter and she sounded great (this was Wednesday night) and they thought that I could spend a few weeks in the hospital being monitored and deliver when I get closer to term (I was 29 weeks 1 day). On Friday morning, they hooked me up again for my morning monitoring and they had some serious issues findng her. An ultrasound showed that the other US had been wrong, she wasn't 4 plus pounds, she was only 1 pound. I am over weight so it was hard to tell originally. So that proved that baby wasn't getting enough nutrients because of my BP being so high so they did emergency c-section and she was perfect! She didn't even need a ventilator because I had gotten the steroid shots when I was admitted for her lungs to mature faster. We did a minimal amount of time in the NICU and she came home at 3.5 pounds and still 4 weeks before her due date. She met all of their requirements to leave that early.
I am not trying to scare you, but preeclampsia is very dangerous to both mom and baby. If you go too high you can stroke. Or baby can starve or have other complications, I don't remember what, but there is. So don't let them sluff you off. Head on up if your BP is higher then 140/90 after you lay down on your side for 15 minutes before you check it.
Good luck and keep us posted!

My BP was 137 over 93 then went up gradually and the last one i did at home was 147 over 101 i thought maybe it was the BP thing so my mom took me to cvs where they have one in store and it was 153 over 97

oh my! that is way too high! You need to call your doctor. If they had found protein in your urine and your bloodpressure is that high that is almost a definite sign of preeclampsia. That is not only dangerous to you but for your baby also. You can suffer a stroke and it also cuts off nutrients and oxygen to the placenta. The doctor should of started monitoring you right away and either had you on non stress tests to check on the baby or put you on bedrest at home or in the hospital. The only cure for preeclampsia is having the baby.

I agree with everyone else. If my bp was that high I would call my doctor or go to the ER. I am surprised your doctor did not seem more concerned. 153/97 is way too high for them to overlook.

well...that's weird because I've had the same thing (with the blood pressure, not the protein). It's not quite that high, but I've been monitoring it very closely. I'm also confused and a little scared because I dunno if I should go to be safe, or wait till Thursday for my appointment. I guess there's always something that doesn't seem quite right, huh??

Watch how many times you do your blood pressure out of the same arm in a short period of time. It will jack your BP up so you get higher readings. And whole heartedly.....those automated BP cuffs you can buy at the store are garbage. I'm sorry....I work in the medical field and I recommend everyone not get those. Only because they aren't always accurate. If you arm isn't in the right position or you move.....you get a false reading. If you are concerned call L&D, and take your BP contraption with you. See what they have to say about it. Keep in mind too.....any excitement (fear, anxiety, scared) which would cause your heart rate to go up.....will also cause your BP to go up. Good luck.
