i've heard the same thing about soft cheeses. I haven't been told to not eat american cheese and things, just no soft cheese like you said feta. I've also been told to not eat fish, even tuna, i guess that is bad for the baby as well

SANDWICH, PIZZA, ETC. CHEESE IS PROCESSED CHEESE, IT HAS BEEN PUT THROUGH A MACHINE, KINDA LIKE MILK, TO TAKE OUT THE YUCKY STUFF AND SANITIZE IT. THOSE OTHER CHEESES HAVENT, SOME OF THEM ARE EVEN MADE BY HAND!

You should actually eat fish, but only certain ones. Salmon is very good for you and your baby. You should stay away from fishes like Tuna and Swordfish.

I was reading a book titled "Why do men fall asleep after sex" and it poses a lot of interesting questions, one of which was about the soft cheeses that shuld be avoided during pregnancy and WHY its bad for us. Heres the deal ladies!

Unpasturized dairy products, including soft cheeses, can host a bacterium called Listeria monocytogenes. This can cuse a potentially deadly disease called listeriosis. Although nonpregnant and otherwise healthy individuals can consume this, and without much risk of anything more than a little gas here or there, pregnant women have the joys of being able to pass the disease thru the placenta on to our babies. Usually for the healthy individual unlucky enough to contract this disease the symptoms are flulike. For us, however, it can cause miscairrage, premature rupture of membranes, premaure birth, and very serious infections in newborns including meningitis. But don't freak if you have partaken in a few items here or there, like brie or fresh mozzarella, Listeriosis is relatively rare.

Hope that helped anyone. I enjoy learning new things, and am always researching new topics. If anyone wants any info just email me @ Skullbunnybleujunk@yahoo.com
Im open to new things and love to be able to help others.

The reason you shouldn't eat softer or aged cheeses is because of the mold/ bacteria that are in them. It usually doesn't hurt us but I read that it can cause deformities in babies. Also you shouldn't eat sandwhich deli meat, unless you heat it up to kill bacteria.

YES, IT'S LIKE, WOULD YOU DRINK MILK STRAIGHT FROM A COW? I'M GUESSING NO. IT HAS TO BE TREATED, AKA PASTURIZED. THE SAME GOES FOR CHEESE. ALSO, I WOULD APPRECIATE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DISCOURAGING THESE YOUNG LADIES TO NOT EAT ALL FISH, TO DO THEIR RESEARCH. NO, YOU SHOULDN'T GORGE YOURSELF WITH FISH, BUT THAT GOES FOR ANY ONE FOOD. FISH IN A CAN IS FINE, THEY ARE PRE-COOKED, LIKE TUNA, IT IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Ok so they tell you not to eat a lot of things,lol...what I learned from my first pregnancy is to be sensible...I ate blue cheese because I had cravings for it, I ate LOADS of tuna and also Sushi, lots of fish and I mean lots lots of fish...............I lived in Europe for about 4 years and the pregant women there (the ones I knew and observed) ate whatever they wanted,lol...and I like them had healthy happy babies...in fact the country I lived in has a high health rate and life expectancy..no im not saying that all cheese is ok or that eating tuna and sushi are perfectly safe..im just saying we tend to get a bit paranoid over here in the states ,lol...and its ok but dont get so scared you dont do anything for fear if it causing some damage   I know its stressful being pregnant as your constantly worried about your child...but then when your worrying about everything else too, well thats too much stress..btw if u like sushi, the California Roll has no raw fish in it...and my mom is Japanese and she ate a load of sushi, all kinds and im fine and so are my three siblings, one of them (my brother) is a my twin,lol...and so just take advice in moderation and make sure your not doing something nuts but enjoy and congrats!!! Having a baby is great, I know im estatic!!!

They says soft cheeses, unpasteurized milk, and lunchmeat along with uncooked hot dogs can carry a bacteria called listerosis that is only kept at refridgerated temperatures, which is very unusual because usually something that stays that cold doesn't keep bacteria. Anyways.....I say use your head like the other woman did. If you don't eat it all the time you'd be fine. Soft cheese are like blue cheese, feta cheese, lots of imported cheeses are soft cheese. American cheese (sandwich cheese) is fine for you when you are pregnant and so is cheddar, monzarella, and pepper jack.

As long as you aren't eating those foods all the time you should be fine. It is like alcohol. You can't expect to drink a drink everyday when you are pregnant because then you could cause harm to your baby but if you have a drink or two throughout your pregnancy....you and your little one will fare just fine most likely! There is always that chance...but you still have to live.

I crave subway a lot, so I go to subway to get a sandwich which has lunchmeat. But I don't eat it every day or even once a week. Self control and limits.....lol that is what you have to do when pregnant!

The only fish u should avoid whilst pregnant is swordfish apparently, sushi is also a big no-no cos its uncooked n is not gd for baby. Oily fish like sardines is very gd cos it has omega3 init, which helps baby's brains cells. Some soft cheeses are ok to eat tho, but only pasturised ones like 'philedelphia' for example. Hope this clears up alot of confusion! never heard of hotdogs being lethal tho, thats news to me!
