Need Help and Advice

I am having some major problems with nap times.
My son is 3 months old and sleeps through the night beautifully in his crib for 7-10 hours without getting up. Then he will go back down and sleep a few more hours totaling about 11-12 hours. But during the day he will not take a nap unless he is in his swing, car or in my arms. I talked to one of the RN's on base and she said to just let him cry it out cause he is not sleeping enough during the day. I am on my 2nd day and it is still HELL. I just want to cry everytime he cries. Does anyone have any suggestions or know how long this crying it out thing is supposed to last?

I dont let megan cry it out.. but when I first started putting her down for naps, she was less than impressed. Put him in his crib, give him his soother, turn on his music, give him his stuffed animal, same as bedtime. Walk out, and just wait at the door, if he starts screaming, go in, shush him and calm him down, then walk out again. Eventually, he will just get tired and go to sleep. I just always keep going in and calming her down. If he gets frantic, pick him up of course, calm him down, but then put him right back in his crib. You dont have to let him cry it out just to get him to nap. Just be persistant and dont give in and rock him to sleep. He is 3 months old, so the most he should be awake between naps is 2 1/2 hours. Megan can make it to about 2, and shes ready for a nap. I get her up and feed her, then 2 hours later she naps for an hour. Thats pretty much our schedule. Hope you can get something going that works for you! Feel free to Pm me with any questions!

Thanks, I will try that. It just breaks my heart to hear him cry.
But the boy can stay awake for 4-5 hours, and I know that is waaayy too long. I have been putting him down after about 2 hours.
I just don't understand why he is soo good at night, but not in the day.

My son is the EXACT same way! At night I can put him down drowsy in his crib and he'll go to sleep just fine and sleep great in it. But in the day time he will not sleep in his crib! Just like your son he either wants to be held, in his swing, or in the car. I don't see a problem with letting him sleep in his swing. Thats what I usually do. I never thought to use the "cry out" method during the day. That would be tough. Hang in there mom.
