U/S showed no baby...but nothing happening????
posted 26th Sep '07
On Friday I had my first ultrasound and they said there was no baby - placenta and sac but no fetus.
I was questioned over and over about bleeding and spotting - NO - I have had NO bleeding or spotting, still NO spotting and I wonder what's going on - am I just going to keep on carrying an empty placenta forever and keep having sore breasts but no baby??
I'm 8 weeks along - how long does it take for the uterus to expel the placenta and egg sac?
This is horrible for me and my partner - we wanted this baby, we are now told there is no baby, but I'm not miscarrying anything?
Hope someone can help.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Sometimes docs like to wait to see if your body takes care of things on its own. Otherwise they will do a D&C. My friend just had this happen, it was about a week and she started bleeding. But don't let your doc wait too long, sometimes you can get infections.

So sorry for your loss! I had my u/s on the 10th of Aug,when they told she was gone, started spotting on the 17th and miscarried her on the 24th. I bled until Sept. 3rd. I let her go all natural instead of a D&C. Good luck sweetie!

well heres my situtaion, i was suppose to have twins and they saw on teh ultra sound that they thought it was a clot that was causing me to bleed with no pain! but it ended up being a "lost twin" the doctor saw the sac there finally, and if she looked very closly she saw what looked like a baby was starting to form but didnt, i found this out when i was 15 wks pregnant. and the bleeding just started then! so maybe thats the problem maybe the baby didnt form all the way for 8 wks,! make sure you get another ultra sound, something is obviously wrong, and make sure they really look, it took 6 ultra sounds AND a specialist to find mine

I am so sorry sweetie. I had no bleeding or cramping with my m/c in May. Maybe your body will start to expel the contents soon. If not you can opt for a d&c asap. That is what I did since the doc couldnt' tell me when my m/c might actually occur. I didn't want to be walking around knowing....and being depressed. I am so sorry and will be here if you need to talk. I will keep you and DP in my prayers.

Thank you ladies for your support and understanding.
My doctor said that if I didn't start spotting by Friday, which will be a week since the dreaded ultrasound that showed no baby, I am to call him and book another ultrasound.
It is the waiting that is driving me and my partner mad.
Both of us have nightmares every night. I cry when I start thinking about my baby - who is most likely no longer alive.
I still have all my pregnancy symptoms - and I took another pregnancy test and it still shows positive - I think I am torturing myself hoping that there was "a mistake" with the ultrasound and that my baby is OK - because I know I have to accept the reality that my baby is gone.
This is so hard...no closure, no anything.

My baby that I lost was a Partial Molar Pregnancy. With a PMP, the baby forms, but the placenta is abnormal and basically harms the baby. However, with a Molar Pregnancy, there is no baby. There is a placenta, as you said...but no baby ever forms. I think you should mention this to your doctor. Molar pregnancies are not very common and my doctor had never seen one. So, they are not easily diagnosed. However, there are factors that cause the need for continuous care after a miscarriage with a Molar or Partial Molar pregnancy. It is definitely something I would ask about.
With that being said, my heart goes out to you. I just sat here and cried b/c those emotions I felt, even though it was four years ago, are still very hard to deal with sometimes. And I am sorry you are going through this.

Your doctor should be testing your levels every 3 days. If they are going down then that means you are losing it. But if levels are rising then they are wrong and baby is still there. Get him to start testing your hcg levels.
Good luck and I pray for you.

I called my doctor today - he is OUT OF TOWN until next Thursday, so another week of not knowing and waiting. He couldn't even get a replacement doc in so the office is closed for the next week.
The receptionist told me to take my temperature and if I get a fever to go to emergency because that means I have an infection.
Some reassurance that is!
I am just crying for nothing this morning - is my baby dead? alive? failing? Receptionist says to "be patient and wait until next Thursday and that I can get a new ultrasound in TWO OR 3 WEEKS if nothing is happening.
Geez - this sucks!

I would get a second opinion. My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum which is basically the sac with no baby, but I had spotting and bleeding and eventually had a d & c but I would definitely get a second opinion. Ultrasounds are not 100% reliable.

Firstly id just like to say how sorry i am you are goign through this...my thoughts are with you and your partner.
Im not sure if this will be any help but i had a missed miscarriage last year. I did not find out until 18 weeks that my baby had died at around 13 weeks. I still had most of my pregnancy symptoms, the only thing that made me get checked out was that id been really ill for around 2 weeks and it was worrying me. When i got checked out they confirmed my baby had died and the reason for me being ill was an infection id got because my little angel had been in there for so long without expelling naturally. I had to have a d+c, i lost a LOT of blood in theatre and was on antibiotics for around 2 weeks afterwards. It really hurts, i know. And some days it feels as tho it wont get better, but please remember we are all here for you.
I would get a second opinion, dont leave it any longer cos its not good for your mind, your body, and your healing process.
I wish you all the best in this hard time xxxx

I agree with the person who said "Get a second opinion" It's not going to hurt anyone if you seek another Doctors opinion of this. I couldn't wait that long.
