Cats and Pregnancy
posted 24th Sep '07
I've just entered my 7th week. My cat has developed a weird obsession with my stomach. She likes to lay on my legs and rest her head against my stomach. And when she can't get onto my lap she has to sit next to me or follow me around.
The fact she even wants to be on my lap in the first place is a miracle, as she's a pretty independant puss who doesn't like to be cuddled or held much.
Anyone else had any weird things with their pets while pregnant?
(Maybe the fact that I'm not grooming her or changing her litter lately and making my partner do it?)

Cats know that there's a change. They may not know that a baby is going to come out of there, but they know there's something different about you. My cat has started to avoid me a little. He likes my boyfriend more, now.

my cat has her moments when she's really lovable, not sure if it's because of the pregnancy or just because she's a spoiled brat that needs constant attention

my cat was more needy. Now his 'sister' is born (as like to say he is a big brother now lol) he hides from all of us... sleeps with us at night but during the day when he was always wanting attention, he just hides.
Although after all the hell Brian was given about changing the cat litter box.. oh it is HIS cat..
now I am changing it. Poor kitty just finished a stupid UTI (Bladder infection) Pisses me off that my man can't do ANYTHING to help out.. hell I have to now beg him to help out with the baby..
would you believe yesterday when I asked him to change the diaper because I neede to eat and feed her but she stinky diaper. he said "But this is my weekend off. I am not suppose to do anything on the weekend"
I said "OMG. you are a F-A-T-H-E-R.. get your a$$ up and help out. Geez... its not that hard. I change her diapers during the day AND night. you need to help out ..
sorry went on a mini rant.
but yeah my cat was always next to me..

My kitten loves on me. I'm going to have to be careful when Lysander is born because the kittten isn't content to just sleep with me or lay by me. He has to be on my face. I call my cats brothers and tell them they're going to have another little brother. (I love my cats too much. ^-^;; )

my cats didnt give a rats ass and ignored me until i got to big to move... then our big guy (he is 20.5lbs... not fat just BIG) would lay on the arm of the chair and hold my belly and always had to touch it.
i think they know something is up!

My cat was always like that, she was always a very affectionate cat, but once I fell pregnant she was ALWAYS on me, it pissed me off!! Animals can always sense that things are different, I wasn't even fat and she was doing it. Now she's not so needy, and I don't think she likes the baby smell on me, lol.

My cat had 4 babies of her own when I was 3 months along. She actually showed interest in me and before she was just the stray we fed. I let her and the kittens live in our room and she would only let me around the babies. She has become very loving and so are her now 4 month old kittens. I love them to death.
My dog has also noticed the difference. She has been the "baby" for 6 years and she loves up to my belly all the time and smells the babies clothes and loves her blankets.
I think all my pets are going to love their little sister.
But the strange thing is, my niece has a pit bull that LOVES my belly. She rubs her head on it and kinda paws at it like "come out and play". It is so cute. And her chiuhauhau (sp?) sits on top of my belly protecting it and growls at any one who gets close. It is so strange cause I am not there much but they do love me! LOL

I have 2 cats, One could care less the other is always wanting to jump on my lap, he did before but not as much....... He's also very careful around my belly, so cute. When I try to push him away sometimes, he gets annoyed and will meow at me loud and bite "Not hard" just telling me, well F. you 2 lol

my cat was always content to just sleep with me. Since i became pregnant though, she follows me where ever I go, and if I'm sitting or laying down, she just curls up on my tummy or will start kneading it. And that is saying something seeing as she is about 14 lbs! She never did it before I got preggo.
My old man kitty couldn't care less. He's 14 or so and he's got his own problems. He just like.. GAH... Another One??
