no, it actually isnt as bad as what some people say(people who dont cloth diaper). its just like doing normal laundry, except u do a couple more washes. it just depends on your washer. mine takes a couple times before they really come clean cause i dont like when they still smell like pee when i put them into the dryer, so if they still smell then i wash them again. and depending on what type of diaper u use. i think pocket diapers are easier for me, i just wash and dry them then put the inserts in them and stack them on my changing table. if my son poops, most of the time its kind of firm so i can just plop it into the toilet, but if its a more runny poop then i rinse the diaper off before i put it in the basket. some people use a trash can with a lid on it, but i just use a small laundry basket, cause to me it seems like if u have a lid on it, there is no where for the smells to go so every time u open it, it smells really bad! and i keep the laundry basket in my sons room and i never smell it.

we have a new front loader- I'm reading this worrying about gah like 4 washes?!

and how often do they actually have to be stripped? or does it depend on the type of diaper?

I am freaking out about this to be honest..lol..but we are sticking to cloth this time.

ive never had to strip my diapers and im going on 5 months of using them. synthetics will need stripped more often that natural fibers. the key is getting a good washing system down, and a good soap.

i use ecosprout with funk rock in the prewash.

i do 1 cold rinse, super sized load.
prewash with funk rock, soak for 20mins and drain in hot.
full wash in hot with 4tbs ecosprout in large load, 2 rinses on warm

and im done, thats it. works great for us, we have all natural fibers tho

How do.you soak in the washer? And is it a powder? I thought u could only use liquid in front loaders

What's the easiest and most effective way to wash (especially stripping) when you're using a laundromat and have to pay??

id get all natural fabrics, synthetics like MF will hold onto funk. also a good detergent is key. alot of people have great luck with regular tide.

you can hand rinse before going, use a long wash on hot/hot and then another short wash with no detergent then dry.

Microfiber would be Bum Genius, Fuzzibunz... like everything, right? And by hand rinsing beforehand, could I just use a diaper sprayer and soak them really well, not using any kind of soap, and THEN do the hot wash with detergent?

you can use prefolds or flats to stuff your pockets, im having to get some pockets back for the babysitter (i sold all my BGs-- HATED them) and i plan on stuffing with flats or FSTs and just tossing the MF. MF sucks.

as for rinsing, you can fill your tub up with warm water, soak em for 20 mins or so, then hand ring before going to the laundromat. if you ever get ammonia issues your gonna want to do the same thing, soak in the tub with some ammonia killer like funk rock, but soak overnight.

My diapers dont really smell when I take them out of the washer/dryer but once my daughter pees in them they smell. Does that mean I need to strip them. What is the best way? If i add vinegar to my normal wash routine will that help?

it means your getting ammonia. vinegar works good in some waters, and not good in others. what kind of diapers do you have? you could try 1/2 cup of bleach soak, or RnG funk rock.

i have alot of different brands. i bought all my diapers used ecept for my recent batch of 10 alva babys. but i just started cloth diapering a week ago so i didnt really know too much when i bought my first diapers. anywyas i have a haute, a sun baby, a happy heiny, a cocalo perfect bum, 2 thirsties, some other diaper not sure the brand its an aio, a charlie bannana, 3 monkey doodlez, and 5 fuzzi bunz, and then my 10 alva babys.

but its not really an ammonia smell, but there is definitely a smell and im not sure if i have hard or soft water.

its the used ones?

i would bleach everything and start fresh.

start with clean diapers, fill your washer up on a large load with hot hot water (turn your water heater up) add 1/2 cup bleach to the water and let agitate for 1 min. add all your inserts, and everything that is not attached to PUL and let sit for about 4 hours. after 4 hours, add your pul pockets, etc. let that soak for about 30 mins. rinse. put it thru a complete wash cycle again, and do about 4 extra rinses.

if that doesnt work, your going to have to invest in some funk rock or RLR. have you thought about switching to natural fabrics for inserts? MF is notorious for funk
