re: Hospital Bag!

posted 8th Sep '12
i know it sounds like alot .. but its actually not. and being that my hospital
WILL NOT give me a list of things to bring, i kinda had to wing it. i tried asking my team of OB's what to bring and the response i got EVERY TIME was

"oh ... i dont know. clothes?" like, thanks for all the help you dumb smurfs.

than theres the lactation consultant. i asked her what i needed to bring. her response?
"BRING EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK"
no one will tell me what the hospital supplies, no one will tell me what specifically to bring so, im just doing what ive been told to the best of my ability. my OB's havent even told me the what to do if i go into labour. so if my water were to break right now, id just be sitting here, clueless.

what kind of gown will they let you wear instead of the hospital gown? i would really love to be able to wear my own cloths. I'll give anything to do so.

You'll probably be allowed, but it might be different for each hospital- call them and ask!

I'd recommend bringing pjs!

For pressure on your back while in labour.

I packed them, never used them. That was the last thing I wanted!

I have had 3 kids and had no idea that they will do that for you! I think I may ask them this time around. That would be so cool! Thanks for the advice!  )

Im currently 33 weeks pregnant so I havent delivered yet BUT i graduated nursing school and know everything about the maternity floor at the hospital here...
I agree with the people that say dont bring diapers and wipes because for a fact they DO provide them. the wipes are just 4x4s which is a soft material u just put warm water on so thats up to u. i have no problem with the 4x4s.

ALSO they DO give u pads for bleeding but if ur like me its best to bring ur own because they are cheap and they dont have wings. i have to have pads with wings or they move everywhere.
They are also going to make sure you have a bowel movement BEFORE you leave..( alot of mothers get constipated after birth) so if you dont want to be drinking MOM (a thick milky yucky medication) or prune juice you may want to bring some fruit, dried fruit, or prunes to snack on. something like that. thats just my opinion thats what i plan on doing. Here are some more things to think about:

sandals( for the shower)
slippers (i dont like the using ONLY grip socks in my bed after i walked on that nasty floor)
outfit for babys hospital picture and go home baby outfit
pillow (you may be more comfortable with ur own)

I brought my own PJs and got blood all over them. Honestly I thought the same thing but I ended up being comfortable in the hospital gowns. When I was up walking around they just put a second one on backwards so my backside was covered

I've had the problem to, I ask my OB what supplies I needed to bring for me... His reply was... Just make sure you preregister. So I'm thinking, okay maybe theres a list online... Nope!

I noticed maxi pads are a common mentionable to bring.. any particular brand suggested, from experienced mothers who have used them before? I've never used pads, so I was wondering about any suggestions- the best, the bulkiest, the most absorbant, the bad... Thanks.
