re: Hospital Bag!

posted 30th Nov
Oh and with the laptop subject or any type of electrical equipment for that matter, CHECK WITH THE HOSPITAL FIRST!!! They may have guidelines on electronics. If you bring it and cant use it, just something else to keep up with!

I guess everyone and every hospital is unique. I am appaled at the hospital that did not provide diapers and wipes! What kind of mess is that?
Anyway I have asked all of my friends and family with children already and they say the most important items are:

*Going home outfit for baby
*carseat(naturally)
*Comfy going home outfit for mom
*slippers & socks
*travel toothbrush, toothpaste, personal hygiene items etc.
*a comfy robe so that all your goods aren't showing to visitors.
*proper papers (insurance cards etc)
*nursing bra (if applicable)
*baby book (if applicable)
*camera

Oh and EVERYONE told me to make sure I have some lip balm, they said after all that work your lips become very dry!

I so needed this. I had no freaking idea what I needed to pack but now I know. Thanks.

I am a c-section, soI will be there 3 days, which is longer than the typical stay. But my last one I brought:

--my own pads
--"period" underwear
--2 different outfits for baby, I brought a preemie and a newborn size since I knew my daughter would be on the smallish size
--pj's
--DVD's
--cell phone charger
--camera
--toiletries
--Lucky Charms (when i had my son, the hospital I was in had HORRIBLE lunches and dinners, so i lived on Lucky Charms. I had to keep the tradition up!)
--blanket for my daughter
--slippers for me

And my boyfriend brought pj's. We lived close enough, plus he had to still work, so he would go home after work and take a shower and get dressed and then come back

I think I understood what you said. And yes, you'll bleed for a few weeks after you have your baby.

i just had my baby on friday. it was a surprise because i was due on the 23rd and came three weeks early instead. i didn't even have my bags packed yet. so after my water broke, i only had time to pack what i thought i would really need, and those were an outfit home, some tioletries, receiving blankets and an outfit home for the baby. my hospital provided everything else: socks, robes, pillows, ice chips, underwear, pads, diapers, clothes, everything else. so ladies, please don't pack any unnecessary stuff, it will just hinder you on your way back home.

You will want to bring your own pads bc the ones the hospital provides makes you feel like you are wearing a diaper, and you can't wear a tampon when you are recovering. Robe is just a nice thing to have, makes you a little more comfy. Nightgowns are not necessary but can be nice. On the other hand the hospital one's have slits for nursing if you are planning on it. Good Luck, you will be fine!

Never mind that question was answered...our hospital is on base and only two blocks away lol, I don't know exactly if they do the whole showering and stuff or even how long I will be there...I don't even know what room I will be in or where I will go in that hospital...I know that I am going to make a list of stuff to bring but I'm also going to ask my doctor to see exactly what the plan is...

I'm prego w/ my first as well and am high risk and having a c-section so I am going to be packing next month probably just to be on the safe side. I'm glad my hospital has wipes and dipers and gives you a car seat so it's less to pack. I'm going to go crazy in the hospital bc i have to stay there longer, just hope i dont get put on bed rest. I know i will be bringing my boppy pillow and a pump just in case. good luck to all the other soon 2 be momma's

That's awesome that you are given a car seat! However, I would check with your hospital before bringing a pump. All the ones I have been to have them there that you can use.

tehre was another thread that was just posted as well that is about a pre-made diaper bag. I went to that sight and just copied everything from the biggest bag. I'll go get the sight and copy it to here.
