re: Hospital Bag!

posted 17th Sep
I know that here they take a pic of your baby at the hospital and if you want you can bring a blanket to lay them on for the "background" We took a winnie the pooh blanket for our son and the pics turned out really cute.

Another thing I am going to take this time is a good pen. I hate using crappy pens and there is a TON of paperwork to fill out when you are in the hosp.

My going home outfit is going to consist of a comfy pair of jammies. Thats what I wore last time bc for some stupid reason I thought I was going home in my jeans. YEAH RIGHT! LOL.

I am also going to be sure to bring both of my pillows this time too. They are so much better than the hospital ones.

Most hospitals don't tell you unless you ask! I took mine for the birth of my now 20 month old daughter ... I got on their Network and got on myspace, surfed the web, and posted pictures of my lil one moments after she was born!

I'm also taking mine again with this delivery, so I have something to do while I'm laying in my hospital bed waiting for things to get started!

I read the comments I'll make sure to do the same. but i'd be asking the hospital what i needhopfully my boyfriend and family will help me "Specially my mother. but if i were u i would ask the hospital what u will need to bring cause they might supply half of that stuff.

Just remember the hospital provides everything for the baby so wipes and diapers are not needed (plus when you leave the hospital it's a policy that they have to get rid of everything that was in the room with you) my birthing class instructor told us to pack the bag with the diapers they use and make sure they get replaced in the room before you leave again and take those too lol.

Hehe That's what I did. I took all the diapers and packed them the day I was leaving about an hour or so before so that they had to come and bring me more....and then when I left the nurses told us to take everything that we wanted from the room (Formula, Diapers, Wipes, Pads, etc.)

My hospital doesn't allow laptops but they do send home every mommy with a diaper bag of their own so I don't need to worry about bringing one.

I still need to go buy the stuff for my bag. I'm a procrastinator. I'll probably do it tomorrow, or maybe even tonight.

They wont take any of the things you bring to the hospital yourself. But when you have the baby they will most likely have diapers and wipes there for you. Really you shouldn't need to bring diapers or wipes, and you don't really need pads for yourself unless you want a certain kind. Like PP have said, the ones that they give you at the hospital are not very comfy AT ALL and if you have stitches they can be even more uncomfortable.

when i did my hospital tour they gave me a list too. she says they provide wipes but nostly enough to get through one or 2 diaper changes. so bring extra wipes for sure, diapers and clothes to go home in are the most important thing. i learned from when my mom had my brother to bring my own clothes. all her pictures right after the birth she is in a hospital gown and she looked terrible but once she was in her own clothes it was like nothing had changed. it definalty looks better in the pictures!!

the list from my hosp said to bring own diapers..i think i'll just take around 10 or so..still need to ask them how long will i b staying at d hosp aftr d birth (assuming i'll have an easy birth and all..we might still have to stay a day or two longer cos they'll hv to monitor my thyroid problem n see if baby is affected)

stuff im still wondering
1.toiletries-i wont hv to actually bathe d newborn baby myself, right? they hv d nurse / midwives 2do it dont they? so safe to say no need to bring baby's toiletries?
2. snacks-everyone keep telling me to bring food (especially for hubby, cos it might be middle of d nite, n being hungry when d baby is coming doesnt help). but what kinda food to pack so it'll b ok if it stays there in d bag for another couple of weeks bt filling enuf 4a man? (not bfast bar or choc)
3. clothes for mama after the birth-i know enough not 2bother trying 2look pretty, but im opting for decent looking..is it ok to wear pants aftr birth? or is it an impossible task? because of the stitches, pain etc?

thanks a million to anyone who even bother 2read this n answer my Qs

You won't need any stuff to bathe the baby. They will take care of that. They will probabably have stuff for you too, but you'll be much more comfy if you have your own.

As for food for your man, I would take stuff like crackers, chips, maybe some beef jerky ect. Pretty much anything he will eat that doesn't need refridgerated or cooked.

As for pants,I wore jammy pants home from the hospital. You can wear pants, but I would steer clear of jeans bc they are restrictive. So stick with sweatpants or something roomy...and don't bring anything you love bc you are gonna be bleeding like a stuck pig and don't want to leak on your favorite clothes.

And I said on Oct 4 I was gonna get my bag together....I still haven't done it. I really should get that done eh?

  thanks so much..
im still not completely ready with mine yet..cos i still wanna wear d clothes i wanna put in there (nope,i dont have too many maternity tops 2spare)

besides, the little one doesnt seem like he'll be coming anytime soon..i walk more than 2kilometres a day uphill to uni, n i dont even have as much as a cramp, let alone a contraction..

so the bag still has time 2complete itself..
