Many hospitals won't allow you to plug in things so laptops, camcorders, cell phones and other electronics should be fully charged before you get there! Just FYI

We had our first child in a military hospital. There was wireless intenet so we took a laptop and a webcam so everyone could see her. We also took a pillow of mine so i would be comfy and then b/c i hate nursing gowns, i took my regular PJ's and was so much more comfy especially when people came to visit. i didn't have anything to look at... i found it easier to stare at my husband! lol. Be careful not to over pack though, most hospitals give you free-be's and if your not careful, you'll end up going home with a million things like we did! Most hospitals will allow you to bring outfits for the baby to wear in the hospital too. I liked that bc when people came to visit she was always looking cute! and i liked her soft blankets better than hospital ones. Consider if you want your baby to have a pacifier or not, if you do, take your own. If not, make sure they know that at the hospital. And you might want to take baby nail clippers.. the doctors at the hospital i went to would not cut her nails for me and she really needed it when she was born.. her nails were really long and she would not keep mits on. Other than that, whatever you feel is necessary but don't over pack!

Pack a 32 oz Porterhouse Steak cooked Medium Rare, a Baked Potato, a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, and some fried chicken and a side of gravy. That baby won't need a thing except a car seat and a ride home.

I have to say, with my daughter, I didn't need over half of that. And it may sound strange, but the mesh undies they give you are SO comfy, lol. They stay nice and soft and breathable, cuz I remember I was SO sore afterwards. Bringing that much stuff... can be kind of a waste of worry, and space. And I used the hospital gowns the entire time i was in there. I brought a robe to cover up in, but I mainly wore the gowns that they provided. Just try to bring the essentials, you bring that much stuff.... its going to overwhelm either you, or your SO. Just my personal opinion.

oh, and when i had my 1st... i was 18. I KNEW I was going to bleed afterwards. But I thought it would be like a normal period type bleeding. I remember a couple hours after delivery, going to take a shower, standing in the shower and seeing this CLUMP of nasty blood come out. I panicked.... first thing that popped in my head was "oh no!! My insides are falling apart, that CANT be normal!" So, I called the nurse and had her come look at my clump, lol. She was this very sweet old lady and just started affectionately laughing "oh honey... thats normal" So.... just an FYI, it probably wont be like normal menstral blood.

I TOTALLY see your point. Schools dohave to educate more than they do. Too many schools are teaching"abstinence only" and wont talk about anything else. I do have to say on the flip side of things.... when did it become the schools job to teach what we as parents should be teaching. Shouldn't we be telling our kids about sex, and how to be safe and the risks and everything? We all know its not a "comfortable' talk to have with them... but its better than the alternative.

oh, my hospital was like that too. From the moment I got check in, till 27 hours later when my daughter was born... I had only ice chips. (That was TORTURE!) and then after that, it was hospital food only. But they were sweet and brought my daughters dad a tray too, so that helped.
