Question...... what kind of gown are we talking about here? Like a store bought hospital gown? Or do they have what you're talking about in a maternity store? Everyone says slippers, socks and a robe... why? Would you guys suggest shower shoes? I'm so frikkin' confused about this baby and labor stuff... I feel like my head is going to spin!.... I thought the tennis balls were for hubby/daddy to be to keep his hands busy--bounce the ball, toss it in his hands, etc. because they get nervous. I guess maybe I will have to take those birthing classes anyways...

The socks and slippers is to keep your feet warm and also because they dont want everyone walking around with dirty shoes. they like to keep their floors as clean as possible.A robe as in well its your choice but i like my house coat. Its comfy plus the hospital gowns are not very thick so the house coat is for extra warmth and comfort. Im not bringing a tennis ball, but i imagine its for you to squeeze it as de-stresser while your in labor it gives you something to focus on.

The tennis ball is actually for back labor. You can use it to help massage your back.

Your own gowns are better for personal comfort, socks and slippers yeah cause idk about over in the states but hospital floors here are hard and cold...... im taking all my own stuff for changing baby, blankets and such mostly for the comfort of my own things around me instead of having to use someone elses , it might be alot to take just pack it well , i got abit wound up with the whole ' well what if in the end i dont need it' its better to have it with you then not, and at the end of the day its all about feeling comfortable!  .... still havnt chosen a going home outfit yet....... baby grow or 'proper' clothes?

I'm taking shower shoes because I really don't know exactly how clean those showers are at the hospitals. We are going to have our own bathroom but I would just feel better with one! But what should I pack for my husband?

Hi, don't want to be funny but if you don't trust the hospital bath or bathroom to be clean then how ever are you going to trust them for germs and cleansiness in the delivery room or in your room.
Don't get me wrong your probably right but yeeks!! if they don't clean and disenfect everything, sheesh!!

i know you are asking for you, but if you have a significant other who is going to be there i would suggest they bring an extra set of clothes.

when my son was born he had a great knack for peeing on my husband every time he was changed. By the second day in the hospital my husband was wearing MY maternity pants because his were soaked.

With my first pregnancy I was so anxious about forgetting something I was packed like two months ahead of time. I suggest, from personal experience only, if all is going well and you arent having complications that would call for a spur of the moment delievery wait until about37,38 even 39th week. Theitems in the bag will be fresh in memory and you wont be agonizing if you left something behind andchances are you wont need it too soon. As far as what to bring, the comment on inductionwas correct. If you are being induced which I was, BRING SOMETHING TO ENTERTAIN YOU!Even something for the room buddy of your choice. A copy of your birth plan in a pocket of your bag was never mentioned before and it should be. Just incase your doctor wont be the one delivering you, you have a back up. I personally brought WAY too many clothes for myself and for the baby. The whole time we were there I wore the hospital gowns provided by them as often as neccessary. You can bleed all over those and not feel guilty or irritated that you have ruined your own clothes. A robe isa good idea for visitors or walking thehospital. The baby will probably be put in the baby shirts they give out so only a going home out fit and or a picture outfit is neccesary. I also recommend Slipper socks with the grips on the bottom. You want to eliminate as much to keep up with as possible, ESPECIALLY if you are a first time mom. Travel size toiletries and I strongly suggest taking a tour of the L&D and ask about postpartum and what will be provided for you. It will help with packing!
