Had first ultrasound - told "PROBLEMS" help?!?
posted 21st Sep '07
Went in for my first ultrasound this morning, first they did the one on the belly, then said I needed the internal. asked me if I had bleeding, If I was sure I was pregnant, and said there are PROBLEMS but would not tell me what the problems are.
Said that file is being sent to my doctor for him to tell me what the problems are and that they could not discuss anything with me.
I went home and took another pregnancy test - DEFINITELY POSITIVE - this is the 3rd test I've taken, I'm 7 weeks along, and I am really worried about what the heck the problems are that they are talking about!
Anyone have this happen? What problems could be happening? I'm just freaking out now - trying to get in to see my doctor today, as I'm going out of town for 4 days starting Saturday and I need to know what's wrong with my baby! May or may not be able to see my doc - I'm on a cancellation list.
I'm scared!

Hopefully it's nothing. I had my second ultrasound at 6 weeks and 4 days with my doctor and all we could see was the yolk sac and a tiny little speck. I went and had another ultrasound done on Wed. (8 weeks and 4 days) and saw the little bean, heartbeat and all. When I went for my first ultrasound, it was in the ER and the technician told me she couldn't tell me anything, only the doctor could, so try not to worry.

Oh sweetie I wish I could help! First, I think it ws rude for the u/s technician to tell you this...they are not supposed to say anything of the sort. Mine did the same thing and told me I needed a cerclage....then said my doctor would call me. Maybe she didn't see a heartbeat..but this is very common because you are so early!!! A lot of moms on here had the same problem. And second, I hope that your doctor will be professional enough to call you as soon as he can, today preferably, and not have you wait and be stressed out!
I hope everything works out for you. I know it is easier said than done but try not to stress for both you and the baby's health!! You can write me if you want...I will listen and talk.
BTW I forgot to introduce myself. I am Ericka, 28, married 9 years, pregnant with my first, and I had a McDonald Cerclage at 15 weeks so that I would not lose the baby. 18 weeks 5 days now.

Well dont worry too much because they told me I was having some problems, I ended up on bed rest at 6 weeks even. But they ended up being totally wrong. They just worry for the first part, thats when you are the most likely to have an issue so they are extra cautious.
They thought they were going to have to take mine even, and I went to the hospital for pain and they laughed and said my doctor was an idiot and showed me the baby and said it was fine. And at my last appointment they almost freaked out too, i am now like 15 weeks and they couldnt find the heartbeat for a while. This baby likes to hide way way way low, but once she did she said it was good and strong. So they almos got me worried again, for no reason, again.
Youd think they would realize stressing pregnant people is bad, but yet they seem to still be confused. LOL
Besides the way I looked at it when I was going through all that stuff in the begining was, there is nothing more I can do, so siting back and relaxing is the best thing for me and the baby.

I'm so sorry they've got you all scared.
I know that sometimes when women are very early on in their pregnancy, if the sonographer can't get a good image or anything with the belly sono, they do the internal.
When I went for my second ultrasound at a different hospital then I had my first.... the technicians in there wouldn't tell me anything either. They wouldn't even tell me the gender. Apparently they are not "allowed" to disclose certain information without doctor's written permission.
Is there any way you can call your doctor and see when he or she will get the sonogram results in? And if s/he could contact you ASAP? Let them know you were given bits and piece of info but not detail, and it has you very worried and stressed...

When I was 5 wks pregnant I had went to the hospital for sharp pains in my stomach and they gave me a urine test to see if I was really pregnant and it showed up positive so they did an ultrasound on my stomach and they didn't see anything so they kept me overnight and the nest morning they gave me one internally. but they kept saying that I could have ectopic pregnancy since they didnt see the baby, but the next day when they did one internally they saw it but they had to check it twice. I would say if you can't get in to see your doctor I would go to the hospital to make sure everything is ok and so you don't stress to much, I hope everything is ok. and good luck

psh well lemme tell you my story (if you havent heard it yet) i went for my first u/s... dr said "theres no baby there" went for like... 4 more ultrasounds every other day... my hcg kept doubling... no baby... at 7 weeks with nothing the dr scheduled me for a laparoscopic surgery and a D&C... the next day i went in for my D&C... baby decides to show up. so dont be worried. the dr actually told me "there's no baby in there, there's no way this is a viable pregnancy". well... here i am 5 days from being 1/2 way through this "impossible" pregnancy and everything is a-ok. so F doctors! dont worry too much! i hope everything turns out ok!!

This gives me a shred of hope. I was told yesterday at 4:30 pm that there's no baby in me. My partner is devastated, has been in bed since 7 pm, did not eat, will not get up. I'm sort of in shock and denial - I don't want to believe it.
We are headed over to Vancouver today for a 4 day trip we planned before we knew I was even pregnant. Spending the weekend there and going to see Smashing Pumpkins on Monday. Coming back Tuesday evening.
I hope I don't start miscarrying at the concert.
I hope my partner will get out of his depression.
I have to go now.
I have to get ready for my trip.
I'm so sad today.
Thank you for your support.

i hope everything turns out okay... just make sure you locate a hospital near where you're staying, on the offchance that its ectopic, because that's seriously dangerous if it is. and keep an eye out for extreme nausea, light headed and dizziness, and sharp pains on one side of your abdomen. if you start to get sharp pain (trust me, it wont be mistakeable for cramps) then go to the ER asap, cuz it CAN kill you. now that ive scared the shit outta you (sorry, i just want to make sure you're safe and okay) , keep in mind that ectopic pregnancies are RARE and its more likely that either you ovulated late in your cycle (like i did) or it was a chemical pregnancy. up until my 20 week u/s this past monday, my baby was 9 days behind!! which means i ovulated about at day 21 instead of 14!! so its totally possible!! keep faith!

oh and p.s. have them do a quant beta hcg test (the quantitative blood test) cuz the best way to tell whts going on is your hcg levels. if they're doubling perfectly, its most likely that your dates are off. if theyre going up but slowly, its most likely ectopic. if they arent going up or if theyre falling, it is most likely a chemical pregnancy.

I'm really sorry to hear that. That was really awful of them to tell you that there are problems but then not explain anything. Of course that's all you can think of now and worrying is not good! Who told you that there is no baby? You should definitely get some blood tests done to test the HCG levels and then again in two days to see if they're doubling. Wishing you the best and hopefully somebody has just made a mistake with interpreting the ultrasound. Please keep us updated.
