c section aftermath?

posted 14th Apr '10
I am 4 months pp, and having a ton of pain still after my stupid emergency c-section. I talked to my OB and went for an ultrasound the other day. The tech said she didn't see anything of major concern but to follow up with my OB as well.

Both my OB and the tech mentioned that if it's nothing more serious, then it is probably just my body taking a long time to heal. I am on my own a lot and carry the baby most of the time and take care of our household stuff on my own day to day since hubby works insane shifts.

Any ladies have anything similar? I just really thought I'd be doing better by this point. 4 months seems so long even if I'm doing a lot at home - I mean, so many women have c sections and have to carry other children around etc so I'm still worried and just wondering if there is anything I can do to speed up the healing process or get rid of the pain? anyone have any advice?

4 months!!! eeekkk!!! I didn't even hurt for 4 days?! (but I hear I'm one of the lucky ones) Wonder if there is an excesive amount of scar tissue? or maybe something inside is pulling because it healed to the scar? What hurts? The cut? or inside? or only when you do certain things?

Sorry I don't have advice for the pain but have they checked for cysts? My friend was in horrible pain for months after her c-section thinking it was because of the surgery. Turns out she had a giant cyst hiding on her ovary.

I personally would be asking for another opinion. Jeepers I looked after my other two kids and the baby and was completely healed (outside and in) within two weeks. It doesn't hurt to get another docs outlook on things.

the inside hurts. i have a lot of cramping and shooting pain and then i have pulling pain when I reach or twist...it's so frustrating and painful. I was on percocets but those weren't even halping after awhile. Maybe it just isn't healing nicely like you said...the scar looks ok-ish on the outside. It's still red and purple at the edges.

ya that's what they were checking for at the ultrasound...they said no cysts for sure but that was sort of all the told me so far.

ya I'm going to do my follow up and then if they have nothing else for me I'm planning on seeing someone else. It doesn't make sense to me to go on hurting like this. it's getting hard to get back into the swing of things and that is with only one baby...

If it was an emergency c section....they may not have taken their time much when cutting and I would be there is alot of scar tissue. Hope you feel better

Yeah it sounds like scar tissue.. my OB encouraged me to be kinda active after my csection to help break it all up and it seemed to have worked.

that's what I'm thinking at this point would be best. I want to just suck it up and get out there more but even sometimes pushing the stroller really hurts. how did you get started and what sorts of things did you do when you got it to start feeling better? would they have seen scar tissue in an ultrasound?

I don't know about the ultrasound bit but I was told to walk a LOT! Yeah there were several times in the first 2 or 3 months afterwards where i was doubled over in pain from the tissue breaking up, but it is totally worth it when it's all said and done. There were a couple of times that I was freaking out that I might have accidently busted open my internal scar, but I was just paranoid. I hope they find out what it is and you can find some relief. I'm thinking it is either the scar tissue or maybe you just have a swollen internal scar, which they can just treat with antibiotics. Good luck!

thanks girl. I'm going to just keep walking as much as I can, day by day and hopefully it will get better. I'm not sure if it's infected because it doesn't hurt the same everyday. some days it doesn't hurt at all until the end of the day....sofrustrating! I'm glad to know someone else hurt pretty far along tho...I was beginning to think something was really really wrong if I was the only one

katelee- you know whats funny? My MIL made me start walking on Sunday pm and I noticed a change in my pains. my legs hurt more now when before it was my incision, its pretty interesting to know that walking has worked for others cuz i was skeptical......

Makes sense to me. Sorta like when your period cramps are bad and you want to stay in bed but once you get moving they feel better. P.s I hate my MIL. She has been on my ass saying I should be perfect by now and acts like my complaining about pain is laziness or something...beeeeatch!
