well i'm not for marijuana, but i have heard from people who are for it that it doesnt do anything. now i dont believe this one bit, but thats their backing. i think it can cause asthma, ADHD, and possibly learning disabilities, but thats not always the case. i'm not sure, and i dont want to start a huge argument. but my cousin smokes 5 cigarettes a day when she was pregnant with her 2 kids, and they seem fine. theyre not like totally retarded or anything. but maybe they could be smarter if she didnt do that. she has never said if she smoked pot when she was preg or not, but i would assume she did because she has told me when she was with her ex they smoked pot day and night. there's not much you can do about it. peopel who do everything right have kids with problems sometimes also, so theres not a whole lot you can do. just let her make her own decisions i suppose, and pray that the baby wont have to suffer for something her mom did. good luck, take care.

maybe u should stand up and b tha bigger person and tell her its time to grow up and go to rehab or something. bc thats tha stupidest thing she could do esp. to her unborn baby. that poor little baby doesnt deserve to have a mother like that! sorry but its true.

I smoked weed consistantly for the last 4 years...mostly everyday and multiple times a day. Even smoked until I found out I was pregnant 5 weeks into it. Failed my blood drug test at the dctrs on my first apt.

Unfortunatly I'll be the first to say, your sisters lack of initative in life to go to school or get a better job etc. comes from getting high and not dealing with the reality. You just get comfortable where you are and don't see a reason to do any better as long as you're still scraping by and still able to get high.

I know this has nothing to do with your actual question. BUT maybe, just maybe this baby will be a life changing thing for her. Maybe and hopefully she'll quit smoking weed and reality will kick in and she'll realize she wants more out of life.

I have a friend who smoked pot during all her 4 pregnancies. All of her babies turned out perfect. All of her kids are really smart too. I have heard of others smoking pot during pregnancy with no promblems. I personally wont do it because I dont want to take any chances.

I use to smoke it when I was younger and I knew people that were pregnant and smoking. One girl quit but her sickness got so bad she talked to her dr about it and asked about marijuana and he said off the record it will not hurt the baby and if it helped her to eat then go for it. I guess he was implying that not holding down food would be more harmful. Her baby will be fine but she might not want to keep doing it. I do not know if they check for marijuana but I know if there are other drugs in the baby's system when she delivers they will take the baby from her.

Thanks for all of the responses. Thanks especially to shex2na. I totally understand what you are saying and it sounds like the most reasonable response to me. I have smoked pot before, often before the military and pretty much all my friends and theyre parents did too back home so i know what its like. I know everyone has the opinion that its not that bad but i just dont think its fair to the baby to even take the chance. I finally called her and asked her if she has quit smoking and she said not yet. I dont think she will quit and if she does its going to be waaaaaaaay difficult for her. But hopefully, like you said shex2na, she will wake up to reality. I sent her a link about smoking during pregnancy that would cause me to quit right away so hopefully it has an effect on her too. thanks everyone!

It has been said that smoking pot prevents or even helps nausea or the dreaded morning sickness. I also saw on TV that patients who have cancer can get it medically (you have to get the the queen of England's signature) to help them eat, since the chemotherapy makes them sick.

What do you all think?

It always helped with my period as far as cramps, headaches etc. So I would say I'm sure it helps with nausea and yes people can get it prescribed for medical reasons.

BUT that doesn't mean it's safe while pregnant. I see it this way, if you really wanted to smoke and believe nothing will happen go for it, but will you forgive yourself if in the end your child ends up having problems because of it? Knowing it could've been prevented, but you were too selfish?

I've heard smoking weed may not directly hurt the fetus and baby may be totally healthy at birth etc. But they usually shows signs of it down the road as far as mental/emotional issues. Some children may have severe ADD, slight autism etc. Of course none of which can be actually linked to weed and they are things you wouldn't notice until later in life.

My thing is either way, do you really want to chance it?

I did a lot of research on smoking pot during pregnancy and in some countries they actually prescribe it for pregnant women to help combat the nausea and keep their appetite up and in a lot of cases it's believed to increase birth weight. The only real problem or complication I found is there is a chance of the baby having behaviourol (mispelled?) problems. But as long as you keep it to a minimum there doesn't seem to be any real danger.

See now im the kind of person that wont smoke pot during pregnancy but im not going to hate on someone else for it. it is their body and their right to do what they will. after all its THEIR baby isnt it?
and babies can get ADHD and all those other things from simply genetics. just because yousmoked pot during your pregnancy and your gets ends up with asthma doesnt mean thats the reason there could be millions of factors enviromental and genetics and it could be that you smoked pot.

I've smoked pot like twice in my 30 years of life and it didnt do a whole lot for me. I personally wouldn't choose to smoke while pregnant but thats me. My oldest sister smoked with my younger nephew her entire pregnancy. My nephew has a lot of issues now. He repeatedly will throw himself down on purpose and crack his head. He bangs his head on everything. He has done it so hard before that he's needed stitches. My whole family contributes his problems to the drug habit of my sister. She still smokes too which I don't think helps him.

I personally wouldn't want to chance my child to come out like my nephew.

Seems to me like some people are trying to find an excuse to continue their pre-baby lifestyles...heaven forbid a baby make you choose to grow up. But whatever....I'm sure someone will get pissed at this.
