So we are just starting this whole NICU journey. My baby girl Evelien (ava-leen) was born 2/16 at 27 + 5 and 2 lbs 11 oz.
Totally unexpected and I still don't understand the cause of her being this early, but I was having more contractions than normal and went to L&D where they found my cervical length was about 50mm, so they flew me to the closest hospital with a NICU, the rest is kindof a blur, but I am getting used to life in here.
I have a 4 year old son who is having a hard time understanding that the baby is born because he can't see her and he was getting so excited about meeting her. I am spending my days in the NICU and driving 50 miles home at night. She is doing well so far and I am totally impressed with her care.
She is alternating cpap and high flow right now. She is doing really well on her high flow right now and it is down to room air!

My son was born 2/1 at 30 weeks weighing 2lbs 14 oz. Today marked 4 weeks/1 month and he's at 4lb 5oz, on low flow, and has breastfed a little bit!! His feedings were being given by a pump over an hour so his tummy doesn't ever get completely full since he was having trouble breathing during feedings but today they brought it down to 45 minutes and over the next few days he'll be weaned off it. Then we start taking steps to go home, probably first step will be getting him to bottle/ breastfeed.

I pretty much updated in that last post lol but I'll repeat myself! Creedence is 4 weeks/ 1 month old today! He weighed 4lbs 5oz last night and is finally on the low flow cannula and doing great on it! The nurse said we can start working on very small amounts of bottle feeding whenever we want but I'm scared to push him. I don't want him to have to go back to high flow or cpap again

Congrats! I love Her name!!!

Good luck in your nicu journey. So they have anywhere for you to stay closely at least a couple days a week? Mine had sleep rooms in the nicu and there were cheap houses for people to stay in that had the security chauffeur you to the nicu. Maybe something like that can help lessen the load of driving back and fourth so much?

She's a big girl for 27 weeks. I'm sorry you had to go through this all so fast and unexpectedly.

Thanks, she is doing really well. She passed the 3 lbs mark today and got off her cpap for a trial on only high flow and her feeds are up to a half an ounce.
THanks for all the suggestions, the drive isn't so bad really and I get to be home at night for my 4 year old.

thats normal mama. it's hard to adjust to having your baby home. Its a lot of emotions to go through and it takes awhile to get a routine.
