labor story (long) :
on march 23rd, 3 days overdue, i didn't feel the baby move at all. at about 9:45pm i called my doctor and she said to go to L&D if i was worried. my mom and i headed off to L&D around 10. when we got there, they put me on the monitor and took a urine sample. the babys heartbeat was fine. my doctor wanted them to do an ultrasound, so i headed downstairs and they did one. the baby wasn't moving but her heartbeat was still strong (weird). it turns out that my amniotic fluid was low so my doctor said that i was being admitted and they were going to induce me. at 2:30am my doctor showed up at the hospital and put in the Cervidil to help me move along. I wasn't dilated or effaced at all
she said they would leave the Cervidil in for 12 hours, take it out at 2:30pm and we would start the Pitocin at around 4pm. well, around 7am i started getting cramps, and by 9:30 they were full blown contractions no more than 5 minutes apart, lasting about 1 minute each .. they checked my cervix which was now dilated 1-2cm so they took out the cervidil andsoon after, put in an IV of bennadryl to help me get some sleep. after 1 hour i woke up in terrible pain but i couldn't get another IV for 3 hours. i had contractions for 3 hours before i got more bennadryl, and once again they checked me and i was still at 1-2cm. after i got the IV, i slept for another hour and woke up around 2:30pm. after a few bad contractions, i felt like i had to pee really bad, but then i rolled over and felt leaking. my water was leaking slowly. after a couple more contractions i had the strongest urge to push. i told my mom and she said "there's no way, kerri .. you're only 1-2cm dilated." so i asked her to get the nurse. she went to find her, came back and said she'd be there in 10 minutes. i said, "NO MOM, i need the nurse NOW. i HAVE to push!" the nurse came rushing in, checked me and sure enough i was fully dilated. i kept having contractions that i couldn't push through because my doctor wasn't there yet. i squeezed my pelvic muscles thorugh one contraction and my water gushed out and went everywhere as my doctor walked in the room. she dropped her purse, put on the gown and sat down. i had already began pushing because i couldn't hold it any longer. after one push, the babys head was almost out. after another good push, her head came out and her cord was wrapped around her neck TWICE. the doctor pulled my perineum, cut me, clamped the cord and cut it, and then clamped it and cut it a second time. after her head was out, i did a few more pushes and she was out within 5 minutes. i tore BADLY and i had an episiotomy, so my doctor stitched me up for literally 30 minutes if not more. needless to say, i didn't need the pitocin after all. and also, i did it all natural
