white blisters on back of my sons throat?

posted 24th Mar '10
Okay so starting at 12 on Monday night my son woke up screaming with a fever, he did it all day yesterday & all last night. I did everything I could to keep the fever down but he was screaming like he was in pain, so I called his dad @ 6 to pick us up. We had to go to Walmart first to pick up wipes & formula we got to the ER @ 730 and did not go to the back till 1205. My son was SCREAMING with a fever the whole time and nothing would calm him down, I dont get why they didn't take him back first he's a damn baby for crying out loud. When he did get seen they said it was a minor ear infection but my son had a ear infection before and he wasn't crying that much nor did he have a fever. We didn't get out of there till 238! So this morning I woke up to my son having white blisters on the back of his throat! Is this strep throat or could it be something else? They gave him amoxicillin for his ear infection could this also work for his mouth?

It kind of sounds like strep, at least that's how it always looked for me... Poor guy, it can be pretty painful... The amoxicillin would treat strep if he has it...

Call the Pedi's office, most have an on call nurse that can call you back if they aren't open yet, or soon.

I would call your doctor. Blisters could be strep or fever blisters. And no, amoxicillin should only be given for what it was prescribed.

Sounds like hand foot and mouth disease (coxsackievirus)! My son had it and it causes a really bad sore throat if the blisters are in the throat

I agree with the other posters. If it was strep the amox would treat it too. It could also be fever blisters.

Amoxicillin is a broad specturm antibiotic and used for many things, with strep being one of them! Finish ALL of the amoxicillin and if the blisters have not gone away, I'd give them a call and be seen again!

No, fever blisters aren't actually an infection.

if he didn't have the blisters anywhere, and he does have an ear infection, it's understandable that they would attribute the fever and irritability to the ear infection.....sorry mama, it's hard to see our babies sick
