to parents with boys...IM SCARED HELP!!

i was just watching the show "Bringing Home Baby" on TLC. which i know i dont need to be watching because everytime i watch i get more and more nervous and scared.
but anyway...the parents had just brought home their baby boy and he was circumsized. the mother made a BIG deal about being scared of changing his diapers and giving him a bath because of it hurting the baby, etc etc. watching that made me TERRIFIED because im also having a boy and i plan to get him circumsized.
so im asking to the parents that have already had boys....is it really that big of a deal to change the diapers, etc and should i be worried that i wont be able to do it??!!

Its not that bad. Just put on the cream the doc gives you and put a little extra in the diaper so it doesn't stick. Washing it isn't bad either. You just have to be gentle. My son only seemed to be sore for a couple days.

well i just had my baby and they just put a little ring on it and it fell off after six days, u can put them in the bath etc. but we could not put in cream on it b/c it would make the little ring come off before time, he got his done after 2 weeks old b/c he was in the NICU for the 1st 2 weeks.and it only bled a little the 1st day and that was it, i was scared to but it was not bad at all. good luck

I was a little scared too, thank you for asking the question and for the answers.

We weren't even given cream to put on and it never really dawned on me to be any more nervous about diaper changes/bathes because our son was circumsized. He never seemed sore of uncomfy due to it so maybe that's why it didn't make me feel weird. You will naturally be gentle with your baby so I really woudn't worry to much about it.

There is no reason to fear anything, I have three sons, and it was not difficult to change diapers or anything, you can buy the diapers that have the little cut to protect them and keep petroleum jelly around their private part and that will take care of things, watching too much tv and reading into these situations can be overwehlming, believe me, I watch those shows too, but everyone is different.

I'm also having a boy and we plan on circumcising him. I was a little nervous because I didn't want him to be in pain or accidentally hurt him. My friend just had a baby boy and all you do is put some petroleum jelly on it and wrap it in guaze after each diaper change for a few days. She said in 2-3 days, it looked so much better and her son wasn't bothered at all. Some doctors do put on the plastic thing (not sure what you call it) and some don't. I don't think the hospital I'm delivering at does. I'm also thankful my hospital uses a penal block so he won't feel anything...otherwise I don't think I'd feel so sure about it. I watch those TLC and Discovery Health programs too. My husband keeps telling me to stop watching them...I get scared about every little thing that could go wrong, so I think they do more harm than good, especially for a first time mom like me.

When mine was circumsized, all we had to do is put A&D ointment on it and lay a piece of gauze over top and diaper him up. The nurses said we didn't have to wipe his front or anything if he pee'd just gently clean the poop if any got up there. I've NEVER been around boys or seen it before, but it looks much worse than it is. I think I remember it healing rather fast!!!!

my son was 4 days old when he was circumsized....i remember they numbed him and had me sit with him for a while then the dr. asked me to lay him on the table....he did the procedure...i think they gave him something to make him drowsy...cant remember but when it was over he was very quiet and the dr. said he didnt bleed much....and just told me to put vasoline or a&d and cover it with a piece of guaze for about 2-3 days and he would be fine.....and he was....he didnt cry or anything!

When I had my son and he was cir. I was not afraid to change him. He didnt act like it bothered him at all I think it hurt me more then him. Just take care of it like the dr says and relax and it will be ok. Even after they did it he was only upset til they gave him to me then he didnt cry at all after and I gave him tylenol.

i had my son circumcised when he was 5 days old. i had medicaid at the time and they wouldm't pay for it. so our options were to pay close to $500 to have it done at the hospital or to wait and get it done for $225 at the doctor's office. we waited!
when i would change his diapers i was sscared that the little ring they put on him was gonig to fall off on my hand!

I was scared to touch it as well. The directions told me to wait 2 days then take off the gauze, gently pull back the forskin, and apply bacitracin (sp?) for a few days. The gently pull back forskin part got me confused because I'm thinking didn't they remove that? Well I had a pediatrition appointment the next day and she pushed back the skin for me but it didn't look like a big deal and didn't cause him any pain.

i didnt circumsize my son i was too scared i didnt want to hurt my baby but i think it would have been better if i did because they dont get infections as easily and yes i do clean it.

For my son it was painful and for me it was awful till the circumcision healed.
Ill never do it again to any of my future sons. (if any)
