Bed Rest

posted 14th Jun '06
I went to the dr. yesterday for my ultrasound, & was told that my baby 's growth is severely restricted. I'm 32 weeks pregnant & only weigh 122. My little girl is apparently in the 6th percentile (though I'm not entirely sure what that means, other than she's smaller than normal), she was in the 13th last time we were there. She did finally reach 3 lbs though, which is somewhat of a relief since last time we were there she only weighed a little over a pound. The dr. told us that there isn't enough amniotic fluid for the baby. She's breech too, which isn't uncommon at this point, but she can't turn around because of the inadequate amount of fluid. I got put on bed rest yesterday too. which is driving me nuts. My mom has to drive me 40 miles Friday to see a specialist who we think will most likely want to take the baby c-section that day or pump me with steroids to help her lungs & take her Saturday. I'm really worried about this. Also, my fiance probably can't get emergency leave to be here on Friday. Which will mean since we won't be married until July 1 & he won't be here until June 24, that she won't have his last name. I don't want my little girl to grow up with a different last name then the rest of her family. But, that's not my real concern. The biggest issue I have is I don't know anything about the possibilities. I'm really worried that she won't make it being only 32 weeks into my pregnancy. If you have any information, advice, etc. I would really appreciate it. You can also email me at brianna_cae@yahoo.com. Although, I probably won't check my email very often because of the bed rest.

Obviously I am not a doctor - but I am in my 4th pregnancy and know a little bit about this!! 32 weeks is not always a bad week to deliver in. A 'normal' pregnancy is 40 weeks but most women I know have delivered between 34 & 38 weeks (I use to be a receptionist in a mid-wife clinic so 'most women' equals a lot of women!!). As far as the baby having the daddy's last name - that is nothing to stress about since you do not need to be married in order for them to have the same last names!! This I know as I am not married to the father of my baby and we have already checked into the baby receiving his last name. I wish you and the baby well!! Keep us posted!
