re: Bottle/Formula Feeding

Dunno if anyone here can help me, but I'm hoping so. I just had my son last Thursday. We are having trouble with him latching on to breastfeed, and when he does he doesnt seem to get anything, so while we are working on this we are feeding him formula. Hes currently on the enfamil with lipil. Now I am also pumpint and supplementing him with the breastmilk I pump, usually for each feeding. Now I am currently getting just under an ounce of breastmilk each time, how much formula should he be eating. Before we left the hospital Sunday he was eating 2-2 1/2 ounces of the premade stuff every 3-4 hours. Now, if I give him the breastmilk he will only eat maybe a 1/2 ounce of powder formula-if any. And if I dont give him breastmilk he will go between 2-3 ounces of formula. Any help would be greatly appreciated-I want to make sure he is eating enough, without overfeeding him. I'm also a little concerned because I think hes currently constipated-went from 2-3 BMs a day to none since 8 am yesterday (almost 24 hours now). Anyone know if this could be a side effect either from introducing the breastmilk or from switching from the premade formula to powder? (Same formula-however they look and smell different...)

I feed my son breast milk and formula and sometimes he poops 3 times a day and sometimes he doesn't poop for three days, however they are both normal situations.

Has anybody tried Infant Formula by mom to mom? You guys have probably seen their products at Safeway, Vons, Dominick's, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Pavillions, Carrs, or Genuardi's.

I was wondering what everyone thinks the best formula is for gas. Caylee is EXTREMLY gassy. We have tried everything...I mean everything. So now I'm thinking I should maybe try a new formula. She's on Similac Soy based right now which has helped with spit up since we switched from Similac Sensitive, but the gas is SO bad she just cries and cries.

So we need to get a big 24oz. can of formula because WIC only gives us so much. She drinks the good start, but if I were to get a big can of the parents choice, would that mess her up?

I was curious if anyone knows if it's harmful to give a baby 2 different kinds of formula simultaneously. I ask because I get enfamil from wic and then I have a friend who works at a hospital and he gets me the 2oz bottles of similac for free. The little bottles are so convenient in the middle of the night or when we are out. I just didn't want to give my son both and him end up extra gassy or anything!

We are currently working on weaning our little guy from the enfamil lipil onto the parents choice for fussy/gassy babies-we are currently mixing the bottles half and half and he seems to be ok, only thing Ive noticed so far is hes having more BM's than he had been, but they are of normal consistancy. He went from one every 24-36 hours to I think a total of 5 yesterday lol. I wouldnt just switch right from one to another, do it gradually and you should be ok

I had my son on enfamil and then noticed parents choice is half the price. It's the same thing basically, I just switched and he was fine! Depends on the baby I would think.

My doctor said only switch formulas if it's absolutely necessary. Their systems are so fragile that they don't take change very well.
