My daughter is 3 months old and drinks 4 ounces every 2-3 hours. I tried moving her up to 6 ounces but she doesnt finish the whole bottle and leaves most of it behind. I want to know if I'm feeding her too little for her age??

I hope this is the right spot for this question

Cora is supposed to be drinking a bit of apple juice or prune juice to help with constipation. Friday, the doc said to mix it with formula instead of water.

Do I make 4 oz of formula the normal way and then add an oz of juice (total of 5 oz)

Or do I use 3 oz of water and 1 oz juice to makethe bottle 4 oz?

I hope that made sense...

Is she gaining weight? Growing? Having wet and poopy diapers regularly? If you answer yes to those, then you are feeding her enough. 4 ounces at her age is a perfect amount. Keep in mind, your daughter's stomach is the size of her fist, she doesn't need to be eating a lot.

And if she leaves it behind, obviously she doesn't need it, or want it. You are doing fine!

Make the formula as you regularly would, and then add the juice.

so it would total 5 oz, if I normally make 4 oz bottles?

Yes. You don't want to cut back on formula intake when your baby is constipated. They need the liquid to help things to get moving.

Honestly, I wouldn't mix it with formula if it was me. If our doctor recommended juice, I would be mixing it with water and giving it seperately, that way he would get all the formula, PLUS the juice. If you mix it with formula, and your baby doesn't drink it all, then she isn't getting all the formula. Does that make sense?

I have been mixing it with water but my doc said to cut her water intake. I really don't trust her doc though. So she still gets a few oz of water a day... just to keep her happy.

At her age, Cora really doesn't need water. Babies don't need water until they are 6 months, or start solids. There is nothing wrong with mixing a little juice with water (like 50/50), but too much water can actually be dangerous to a baby younger than 6 months. She gets all the liquid she needs from the formula, plus a little extra with the juice.

She has at the most.. 3 oz of water a day. When she really starts screaming, the cold water distracts her enough to calm down. 4-5 sips at a time. Her doc said that was fine.. but no more than that.

Well, if your doctor says it's okay...

Joey is drinking 6 oz of formula, no less & is 3 months old. He is a big boy. Already weighing about 13 1/2 to 14 pounds. He was 99 percentile in his height & 75 percentile in his weight (or it might be the other way around) at his 2 month checkup.

we use similac, and he lovesss it. i recomend this if your baby needs to pick up weight or you want your baby to get a little chubby. Cash is 11 weeks old, and 15 whole pounds! a BIG BOY! he was averaging about a pound a week for awhile. when i told this stranger that he was 2 1/2 months old she said "you must be feeding him similac" which shocked me. aparently its known to pack on the pounds! i loveee my healthy chubby boy

Going to make a seperate post when I have time. I was rescued today by a good natured nurse.

We're switching to Similac Ali-something for the colic. Has that worked for anyone?

Alimentum? My sister used that with her 1st and it was a godsend for reflux/colic with them.
