re: Bottle/Formula Feeding

posted 30th Apr
okay, thanks. I have switched her to Similac Sensative and it is helping a little. She is still extremely gassy but it doesn't seem to make her as uncomfortable. I don't know how she gets so much air, she burps 2-3 times every feeding. Who knows....we will see how this works. Anybody else have any advice?

Enfamil Gentlease is good for gas as well. Max was having severe gas pains and the Mylicon wasn't working, so we switched to the Gentlease. It works wonders.

i have been breastfeeding for two weeks now...all SEEMED to be going well...but lately she just doesn't seem satisfied at all. So i tried formula feeding and she seems so much happier. I think I may not have been producing enough milk because she'd stop feeding but then want more a half an hour to an hour later...so anyways...I have decided to stop breastfeeding...HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS? I don't want to get mastitis...as my breasts are already horriblllyyy sore. So any tips or suggestions- PLEASE!

I breastfed my little girl for 3 weeks. I just stopped cold turkey. When my breast would start hurting, I just pumped enough out to relieve the pain which was less than 1/2 oz. After about 2 or 3 days I was fine. I had to wear nursing pads for about a week after because I was still leaking though. I am guessing everyone is different and this may not be the best advice. This is my first baby, but it worked for me. I was preparing myself for it to be alot more difficult than it was.

She took to the bottle fine. We are having a little bit of trouble with her having gas since we have switched to formula. She is on Enfamil Gentlease right now and it seems to be helping. Good luck!

I was wondering if any of you took your baby off the breastmilk cold turkey and just gave them straight formula? and how did it affect the baby? those of you who only breastfeed for a couple weeks or so..

When I had to stop with Jake at a month, he did fine. No problems at all

ok, good to hear.   i'm just worried sick...i've never been so stressed in my life! i wanted to breastfeed her SO bad but it's just not working out...I just don't want her to get sick or an upset stomach from just coming straight off the breast. Cause I don't think I can even try to breastfeed anymore. And pumping just won't cut it cause I only get an ounce or two and she's eating 3-4 ounces!...

oh...how did you go about your breast supply? how did you stop it? did you get engorged? what did you do? i'm freaking out...my boobs are swelling big time and I don't want to get mastitis...I think i've already got tons of clogged milk ducts.

Oh man, that part SUCKED. I didn't do anything special, I just let it go away on it's own. Try not to let the warm water hit them too much in the shower. I would always try and cover them with my hands/arms. It didn't work too well, but it was better then nothing. I just bought the breast pads and let them dry up on their own. I'd say it took about 1-2 weeks to go away completely. Although, there would be nights where I just couldn't take the pressure/pain anymore and I'd pump. But, then I just had to suck it up because otherwise it would've never dried up completely.

If you do have to pump, try to only pump enough to relieve the pain.

Your baby might have some gas after switching, perhaps a lot more than usual, combat that with Mylicon drops, and leg exercises. Also, her poop is going to change 100%. It might take a while for it to change, but be prepared for the smell! She also might have some minor constipation, but as her tummy adjusts to the formula, that should go away.

Ok, Im so confused when it comes to the canned liquid formula instead of the powered. I went to buy my son formula because he ran out before our new wic checks can be used...well the grocery store was out of the powdered so I had to buy the liquid that you mix with equal parts water. So since my son eats 6 oz. at his feedings do I put in 3 oz. of formula and 3 oz. of water because the alternative using 6 oz. formula and 6 oz. of water seems like too much, I dont even have bottles that hold 12 oz. I know this probably sound like a big duhhh thing but I just want to make sure since the label isnt very clear. Thanks a bunch!
