re: Bottle/Formula Feeding

Like I said, I have no use for them. They might as well get used by someone that needs them. Otherwise I would probably throw them away in a spate of cleaning.

enfamil with iron is the best formula to use. its the closest to breast milk and it helps the babies in the long run. it makes the baby gasy but so worth it. and my son is 9 months now and he eats 9oz every 2 hours. but he eats baby food too, so he doesnt need the formula as much. and the really cool thing is they can drink regular milk at one year!

Hey yay!! I'm soo glad we have this on here whoopwhoop!!

I formula fed my first and i'm formula feedin Aleena.

My first was sooo easy she was on enfamil first and then i had to switch her over to Nestles Goodstart because she was having pooping problems. It worked like a charm and never had to worry about her getting tummy aches again..I also used the Playtex Ventaire bottles. Oh she was sooo easy..

Now little miss Aleena is one problem after another!

Poor baby... I boobie fed her for only a week because I was gaving kidney problems and had to be put on Antibiotics and they told me no boobie feeding.   It sucked too because i had the hang of it and she was doing awesome..WTH that always happens to me. So i started her on goodstart (powder form) it was doing okay but then she started spitting up ALOT (just in the past three weeks or so) and I took her to the doctor and he wanted me to put cereals in her bottle   I was sooo un-easy about doing that being she's just a itty bitty. But i did and she screamed her ass off everytime she was done with the bottle. It hurt her belly too bad So i took her off of the cereal and then they wanted to put her on Zantak(sp?) but i wanted to try other things before i put her on that(my nephew was on it and didn't doo to well with it) So i wanted to keep my options open. So i switched her bottle which she was on playtex ventaire and i put her on DrBrowns and i started using pre-made Goodstart (its a tad bit thicker then what i made with powder) and she's been doing good. I also have NutraMiagen for colicky babies to use JUST IN CASE this don't work out but so far so good...its been a hassle but she's a happy little beanie so far!

I don't use it, but I used to use Enfamil Gentlease and it was clumpy and hardly dissolved. What I did was warm the water a little before putting the formula in. It helped and it wasn't clumpy in the bottle.

My baby is 4 weeks today. Everytime she goes poo she screams because it hurts.

Do you think the Mylicon drops will work? Or is that for something different?

She has been on formula since day 1. She is on soy now but still screaming when she poos.

I'm going to try to respond to everyone's questions the best I can, I haven't been online in a few days, sorry for taking so long.   (since I'm the one that asked for the sticky, I feel responsible for it. lol)

For those of you that have babies spitting up a lot, if you haven't tried Enfamil A.R. I highly recommend it. Max was spitting up about 50% of each feeding (if we have him 4 oz, he'd spit up about 2), and consequently wanted to eat every hour or 2. As soon as we switched him to A.R. (which claims to reduce spit up bu 40%) he stopped spitting up almost completely. It has rice starch in it (not cereal) which makes it a little thicker, so it settles better in their stomachs. Also, it helps if you keep them upright 15-30 minutes after each feeding.

As far as the clumpy formula goes, if you stir it before you shake it (we have a little whisk we use), it really reduces the number of clumps. (using warm water also helps as mrs.brightside said)

Mylicon drops are great for gassy babies and we use them in every bottle. They are safe for up to 12 uses a day, so we just put it in each bottle.

Constipation (evidenced by screaming with each poo or their poop being hard little pebbles) is easily combated by a variety of ways. Please make sure you consult your doctor before trying them though, becuase if your baby isn't truly constipated, they may cause diarrhea.
~apple juice either mixed in with their formula or diluted with water
~karo syrup (light or dark) just 1/8 of a teaspoon works within 12-24 hours
~q-tip/thermometer/fingertip coated in vaseline (or other lubricant) inserted a teeny ways into the rectum should get it moving within moments
~suppositories

All may not work for your baby, so you might have to try different ones. I just would try them 48 hours apart if one didn't work. Again, I really recommend consulting your doctor before trying any of them!

I think that's all the questions. If I missed any, please ask it again, and I'll do my best to respond. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've been doing tons of research and reading responses from women on here for months, and I'm just going on the information I've gleaned from those sources.

I am really worried I am over feeding my daughter.

She is three and a half weeks old, and weighs almost 9 lbs. (she was born at 9lb 3oz but left the hospital at 8lb 9oz)

She is already drinking 5 oz every four hours?

Am I over feeding her?

I posted this handy dandy chart on page 1 that breaks down the average amounts that children should be eating in a 24 hour period. You might want to give your doctor a call and see what he says about the amount she is eating. It sounds a little high to me. But she should be back to her birth weight by 3 weeks, so if she isn't there yet she might be okay with eating more...I really don't know. I recommend calling your doctor.

what kind of water do you add to your powder formula? bottled water? certain brand? do you boil our water every time? Do the cans say to use a certain type of water or do doctors say to boil water or use a certain kind of filtered???
