re: Bottle/Formula Feeding

posted 17th Aug
What I've noticed about some WIC places is that they love to tell mothers what they think their child wants. To me usually the mother will know what their child wants not a stranger lol. IMO if your baby is happy with her feedings then leave her feedings the same, she will tell you if she needs more.

Hey there, my name is Abi, I gave birth to my daughter on July 16th 2012, that puts her at almost 2 weeks old, and I need advise on something.
Anyway, Im sure you've all heard of the WIC program[women, infants, and children services] well, I am currently on that program and I formula feed so they always ask how many ounces my daughter eats and how i prepare the bottle and all that so i told them that my daughter usually eats about 4 ounces in a feeding and they told me i was "feeding her too much" and that she's only suppose to be eating 3 ounces, I thought you were suppose to feed them until they were full..They're pretty much saying to stop feeding her after 3 ounces, but my daughter likes to eat..
I didnt know babies could eat too much when they're this young.
Should i only give her 3 ounces?

It's nice to see something like this. My Little boy is a week old today and at 4 days my milk just stopped coming through. When I mentioned it on here I got hounded that I was doing the wrong thing an to make my milk come through as formula is "bad". It worked me into a total depression because I felt I was failing as a mother, which is a horrible feeling for anyone, let alone a first time mum. But now I don't feel bad, my little man is healthy and loves his formula and I know in doing the right thing for him and myself.

Hun I wouldn't worry. It depends on size too. I have a 1 week old 9lb baby and he eats almost double what he is "supposed" to eat. And he is happy and healthy. If I was to stop his feed at the "recommended" dose he would scream and cry like crazy.

Even the tins say some babies need more or less than the recommended dose depending on size  . So if you LO is happy and eating let her go and eat till she is full  .

I'm gonna take a guess and I'm guessing that you made a typo and meant to put "almost 2 months"? At 2 months my son was at 3 and 1/2 ounces. Like I said in a post before,I have WIC as well and they LOVE to tell mothers about what they think they KNOW your baby needs. But think of it like this "Hi I'm a stranger who is not your childs doctor nor have I EVER taken care of your child to know what she/he is like at home but since I'm a certified WIC employee this is what your child should be eating and this is how much why? because that is what some doctors said and it's apparently in some child handbook O.o". I'm a first time mom so I had a lot of questions. My sons doctor has no problem with the amount he is eating. Every baby is different, they seem to like to think that ALL babies are the same and every single baby eats the same. But the reality is they aren't. Some babies eat 3 ounces and others eat 5 ounces at 2 months. So as long as your baby isn't over eating and your baby is getting what they need then I say feed your child as you see fit. Your baby will tell you if it's too much or too little.

Yeah some moms do that on here. They are like the Breast Milk Hitlers lol. I breast fed for almost 2 months but had to stop because I just wasn't producing enough milk. No matter what I did I just couldn't make more then 2 to 4 ounces per pumping session or feeding session and I practically had to fight to get that much, and that was with both breasts not just 2 to 4 ounces per breast, nope with both put together. I tried pumping every 2 hours, feeding every two hours,I tried massaging my breast, squeezing, etc. Nothing would happen. SO I had to switch my son to Formula. He's also happy and healthy. You wouldn't even know the difference unless you asked.

Hey mums
I've been using Heinz nurture for the last 3 days and today my 1 week old LO seems to have really bad wind that I can't get up. He could have excessive amounts of burps and still is agetated when I put him down until I burp him again. Had anyone else had this problem with this or any other brand? Should I swap formulas?

I have a 6 month old son. ( Well he will be 6 months on Saturday). We have been having problems with his eating for awhile now. I have spoken to his pedi but his pedi think that he is doing good and that he will continue to do good as long as he drink no less then 27 oz a day. Well thats the problem. My son will only drink a bottle if he is asleep. Its hardly when he wants a bottle during his wake up time. But when he is asleep he will drink his bottles. The Pedi calls him a snacker because he will only drink 2 oz here 1.5 oz there somtimes 5oz here sometimes 4 oz there. Its hardly the time that he drinks 6 oz. Also i have to mention that we bottle feed him since he is called a snacker 12-13 bottles a day because he does not drink all his bottles like he should be. Its a hassle and i would like to know if anyone has good advice about my problem. Maybe changing up his routine or what i could do. Right now he drinks his milk with cereal since he has acid reflex. =/ He does not like baby food =/ we are still trying.

I have a 1 month old, he eats about every 3-4 hours. Well he woke up fusing around the time he normally eats so I picked him up and started making a bottle. While making the bottle he fell back to sleep. Well I went ahead and finished making it because once I sit down he would wake up usually. So I sat down, he stayed asleep. How long is a bottle ready to go good for at room temp? How long in the fridge would it be good for. Do I reheat it?

I'm not sure about at room temperature but on the can it says mixed bottle put in refrigerator should be used in 24 hours.
