re: Bottle/Formula Feeding

posted 6th Jul
ive been breastfeeding since my son was born (5 weeks) and im having to switch to formula,
so im wondering what formula is the easiest transition from breastmilk?
also, is it okay to try different types of formula?

I have to switch to formula soon as well. My pediatrician said it didnt' really matter which formula to use. I'm torn between the Parent's Choice Organic and Nestle Good Start.
I do know that once you pick a formula, as long as the baby will take it yuo should stick with that formula. If you need to switch to another one, yuo should do so slowly and gradually.

I went through the same thing. Don't feel like a failure! You tried. Your baby will be fine. My son was breastfed for three weeks and a few days. He is a very healthy guy on formula. I beat myself up for not feeding longer from the breast longer but it was the best decision for me and my baby. My son is on Simalac Sensitive (orange label). Please just don't feel like a failure and don't let anyone make you feel that way. You are making the choice that will be best for the both of you.

Maybe you should try the similac sensitive, and we use the ventairs I love them.

How many ounces should 2 month old be eating in a 24 hour period???

My DD will be 2 months on the 9th and she sleeps SO much I'm concerned she's not eating enough... from 8am to 8pm she's had 19 ounces, and will probably have another 2 or 3 before she goes to bed for the night, but she's sleeping anywhere from 9-12 hours a night. Is 20 ounces enough in 24 hours?? (I guess if she wakes up by 8am, she'll have another 5 ounces...)

i just realized how silly that sounds, i mean I was wanted to know going into her appt if her doctor might ask me to wake her up for an extra feeding...

You are no failure!!!! I know it is hard not to feel that way though. I have to stop BFing in 2 weeks (because I go back on a medication that I HAVE to be on). I've known since before I got pregnant that I would probably not be able to BF at all. I am happy I got two months, but I am starting to cry because I know I will have to stop soon. I will miss it a lot. But having a healthy mom around is more important, and formula will work just fine.

yeah, i know what you mean..
so far ive had 2 breast infections and a split open nipple
im also having to pump and feed him because of the split nipple it hurts too bad for him to latch on. but my milk supply has almost completely gone away for some reason
plus he seems like he isnt taking to my milk very well,
he spits up a ton and is really fussy most of the time he is awake so im thinking of starting him on soy formula to see if its the dairy thats causing the problem
