Twins or not Twins thats the question?

posted 7th Sep '07
I am just being impatient and this is probably all in my head thanks to alot of people hehe, But i have a few questions for thos who are pregnant with twins or who have twins, because well for one, as soon as i told everyone in my family i was pregnant they all said its gonna be twins because it already skipped 2 generations, ofcourse i just laughed it off they are just kidding with me... and trying to scare me and i wouldnt be scared if i were having twins just kinda maybe a lil shocked at first but i would be fine, any ways then i went to the doctors and she said i felt bigger then what i should be but she was gonna wait til my next appt to see if i even out by then, and another thing is i already have a lil bump, whether its baby or just uterus its def a bump and its def there... so i was talkin to my friend nicole who is a mother of twins and she said thats the same thing the doctor said to her, when she was having twins and that she started showing really early... so i mean i am probably not having twins like i said its prob all in my head, but how did people handle it when they found out it was gonna be 2 rather then 1? Was it so awesome to hear to heart beats, do twin pregnancys differ from single pregnancys? Aside from like showing sooner, i mean whats it like to be pregnant with twins?... I am not nervous about the possibility i am just curious! My appt is sept 11th, this tuesdays... and everyone really got into my head that i am gonna hear 2 lil heart beats... so now i am so curious... anyone have any words of advise or any experiences that they want to share?

an ultrasound can quickly and easily determine whether or not you are having twins. is ur OB referring you for one? u dont have to wait til the fetal survey ultrasound (between 17-20 weeks).

Hi, I just found out Thursday 13th that I am pregnant w/ twins. I am only 14 wks.....They told me on that visit that i was having twins and now i have to come back every 3wks to have ultrasounds. I was checking on the net about different kinds of twins...there is something called Vanishing twins...where it appears to be two but it disappears. Good luck!

Just because you have a bump doesn't mean you are having twins. It depends on your build. A lot of first time moms show early but it's really distention in their belly/intestines.

And you could be bigger because the you are further along than you thought.

Either way, good luck! And no matter what happens, you'll make it work!

At 25 weeks, they usually detect twins by now. If not by u/s then by bloodwork or tests like the quad screen. Things would be off, levels would be higher than normal. But also, I am not your doctor, so thats for saying what tests they may have ordered or what not.

My sister works with a doctor who gave birth to twins and it was a complete surprise. And this was recent too. I think the babies are about a year old now. But thru allof her appointments, no one detected it. She had a c-section, and the surgeon almost fainted. He took pictures of the babies before he pulled them out because the boy baby was completely wrapped around the girl, as if he were hiding her. He did a good job!

My twins are 10. No one ever told me there were twins in the family (they are identical). At 10.5 weeks, I measured 17. My husband saw me getting out of the shower one day and actually accused me of cheating on him because I was that much bigger than I should have been. We even split for a few weeks, his parting words being "there better be more than one baby in there" lol. Needless to say, he ate those words!

I went to my first appointment and told my doc I was worried because I was already in maternity clothes. He measured me and said I was 17 weeks. I told him I was gonna be famous then for immaculate conception. He started laughing and took me back to the u/s room for a scan, lauging the whole time. I thought he was nuts. He set up the machine, put the gel on my belly, and put the doppler in position. Then he literally cracked up when he hit the button to turn on the monitor. And there they were. Two perfect little babies. I almost shit on that table.

And when I told the family? Suddenly everyone began remembering "Oh yeah, aunt so and so had twins or uncle so and so was a twin" LOL nice time to tell me. Out of 5 kids, I am the only one to have a set of twins too. But thats not over yet because mybrothers havent had any children yet. Just me and my 2 sisters. And between us there are 9 kids. I dont know how that is odds wise, but I always say I hit the baby lotto.

I was so excited when it finally sunk in too. Actually, since them, Ive had two more kids, and both times I sat here and PRAYED I would have another set. They are hard work lol, especially when they are tiny and you need to feed and bath and change 2 at a time. But oh my God! Like you dont even know, soooo much happiness. They are at a really great age now, the tween years. And there isnt a day that goes by that I dont have a moment of utter appreciation for them   Then again, I'm one of those crazy ladies who watches those shows on TV about women who have like 11 kids at once and go "Ohh! I wanna have 11 kids at once!" LOL!
