Tums works well for me. So, does milk and cheese, but tums are the most handy, lol. I carry a full size bottle in my purse.

These are the things that my doctor said was okay to take for heartburn, maybe one of these will work for you?

Tums, Rolaids, Maalox, Pepcid and Zantac

good luck! Heart burn is the worst!

A glass a milk before bed or failing that peppermint capsules from the heath food shop...they have helped me and if they dont at least all you can taste is mint. You could also try ginger crystals too.

With each meal I take 2 papaya enzyme tablets a dietary supplement recommended by my midwife. They help keep the acid from forming vs taking a tums or something that only addresses the acid after the fact.

My doc said to AVOID TUMS when i become preg!!! Ive heard some say that they are ok but i would play it safe. Usually drinking lots of water or milk helps.

they say not to use tums during the first trimester as it hinders iron absorption in the blood. Don't take any tums or rolaisd or anything an hour before or after taking your prenatal vitamins for the same reason.

To the gal that suggested mustard, I had heard that before, also to drink a 1/2 teaspoon of vinegar in water. It stops the stomach from raising the acid levels to break down food. It seems weird, but it works.
