Here is info on hat you can take while nursing with a migraine: http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/meds/migraine-meds/
I would suspect your issue is hormone balance & it will take a bit of time for that to settle, but it will settle. I had terrible night sweats after both my kids for the same reason. In the meantime, hopefully that link will give you info on ways ot cope & what is safe to take. In & of itself, breastfeeding should not be related to migraines. It only deals with elevatin of prolactin & that is not typically associated with more migraines. It would be more likely attributable to the overall hormone botttoming out you are doing on multiple hormones right after birth.

And I am sorry you were given bad info in the hospital. Try not to get upset with the mommas here when they give you good info, they aren't criticizing you, they are criticizing the info/advice you were given. I have had multiple Drs & nurses tell me wrong stuff on breastfeeding & intact penis care. Just because they are "professionals" doesn't mean they are up to date with standard of care sadly. Maybe because I live in an area with a very high rate of circ & have boys & have the same people who try giving me BFing advice telling me I need to retract a newborn penis to care for it - it is easier for me to see they don't know what they are talking about though & know that when I want solid info on nursing I stick to places like LLL & Dr Jack Newman.

Hi Ladies..Feeling very discouraged, Noah still isn't back at his birth weight and lost 2 ounces from his last visit. I just don't understand why he's not gaining. I have 11 days to get him to gain, feeling alot of pressure to give him formula. It's the last thing i want to do. *Sigh*
So the doctor is recommending feeding him every 2 hrs instead of letting him go to 3hrs. Her "suggestion" is if he hasn't gained any weight come the 28th then we should give him some formula with breast milk in a bottle. I really didn't want to even consider bottles until after we got my supply established, even more so not wanting to supplement at all. I feel so lost and inadequate now. I know he's getting plenty of milk, he swallows a ton and has plenty of diapers a day. This stinks. What am i doing wrong? I feel like a bad mom and have been pretty emotional since we got home from the appt this morning.

Some babies are just small.

IMO if he has enough wet diapers then he is doing well.

He is 16 days old..His starting weight was 11 pounds, 10 ounces..2 days later he was down to 10.7. We went back in 2 days later and he had gained 2 ounces and that put him up to 10.9. They seemed happy with that..Then today he was back down to 10.7.

I agree, but sadly my opinion right now doesn't seem to matter.

How much sunlight does an infant need to prevent or help jaundice? Lucia is only a few days old and it's pretty cold out.

hahas cool, I'm good then. She doesn't have to be nude does she?

Novali got Jaundice whens he was an infant and they told me she needed to be hospitalized. I just read yesterday that BFed babies get jaundice more often. I FF Novali.

Hi ladies. My supply started to drop so I picked up some fenugreek. I took two this afternoon and was wondering when I would notice a boost in my supply?

I would offer a feed every 2hrs in day & every 3 at night if he isn't gaining well at this point. Breastmilk digests within 2 hrs time, so after 2 hrs his tummy should be empty & he should be receptive to eating & that will up calorie & fat intake & should increase weight gain. It is probably not necessary - but I would certainly do that before relenting to a Dr telling me to supplement. It is actually more typical for a breastfed baby to cue to eat every 2 anyway - so likely he will start to do that soon on his own anyway. Some babies are a little lazier about eating in the first couple of weeks, but they tend to pick up. There is a growth spurt around 3 weeks, so do whatever you can NOT to be supplementing at that time or you'll have a bitch of a time trying to ever catch up after that & get back on track.

Yay me! We didn't supplement last night. Normally around 4 or 5 am Lucia refuses the boob and screams bloody murder till we give her a bottle... that didn't happen today, though! Wooo hooo!

She ate every hour after 5am though... I'm tired.
