Quoting Thorian's Mommy:" how do you mamas deal with your supply? LO is 4 weeks old and i have to pump at every fed becuase LO ... [snip!] ... quickly. My freezer is getting full! Ive even started to bring someto my moms house so if i leave LO there than she has milk."

the more you pump, the more you are encouraging your body to make more. I know that engorgement can be painful, but try not to pump unless there is a big break between feeds, like more than 3 hours. If you absolutely feel like you need to pump, only pump the minimum. Once you get a let-down, stop pumping. It will relieve the engorgement without signaling for your body to make more.

Engorgement at this point is very normal, so just give your body some time to regulate.

Quoting Thorian's Mommy:" so what do i do with the engorgment and clogged ducts? if i dont pump at least a little or the breast ... [snip!] ... then i get engorgedvand get clogged ducts. if i dont pump then thats like not being able to pee when you have a full bladder"

pump just enough for let down or to give yourself a little relief.
even better is if you can hand express or have a let down in the shower. this lets the milk come out without too much encouragement and therefore shouldn't signal you to keep producing so much.

Quoting Laurnabeth:" Wow okay, Ill cut dairy first then, they say thats the most common. How long does it take to leave the system exactly?"

I've heard up to 3-4 weeks and it can get better before it gets worse as their body goes through a kind of detox, so don't get discouraged. there is also a lot of "hidden dairy" to look out for if that does end up being the problem.

Quoting Thorian's Mommy:" lol haha thats easier said than done. alls i haved to do is poke my boob and it lets down and once ... [snip!] ... they both let down with out me even touching them.   it was quit the scene. i rushed to get a towel and milk went every where."

a let down is fine, but don't pump or encourage more AFTER the let down, unless you absolutely need it. I know how bad clogged ducts can be, so don't feel bad about pumping or expressing a little bit, but just don't "pump until they feel empty" or else that will encourage more production.

Quoting Natalie & Aiden's mommy:" How long so AF stay away when BFing?? I am really enjoying not having it but it almost drives me crazy ... [snip!] ... what if I am preggo!!!!! Just curious how long it stays away for most! DS is 5 months old and no sign here what so ever!!"

it varies quite widely. for some, they still get AF right away, about 6w pp. for others, they don't get it back until months after they have completely weaned.

Im still bothered my cousin told me its 'weird' to breastfeed past a year. I told her multiple organizations say its best to go to two years. My sister is the only one in the family who wanted to go to two years, something happened to her supply and she stopped though 4 months ago. I just know everyone is going to be smurffy and talk behind my back about it, for giving my son the best possible thing he could ever consume. Except my sister.

How ridiculous that your family feels the need to tell you how to raise your child. My Mom does make assumptions about me weaning J. Like when I told her I was going back to work...she goes..oh so you'll be getting the baby off the boob then. Um..NO. I think that would make our transition to me working even more difficult plus I want to bf to at least 2 now. We'll see how we both feel when we reach that mile stone.

My mom told me that it would be weird not to start him on solids soon, hes 6 months, that it would be weird just to EBF him.

It just sucks how no one in my family has the right information. I feel like I would sound like an ass trying to tell them the real facts. I just cant win.

Anyone else have the problem of their little one emptying a breast, and wanting more, but you know they're full? She engorges herself and then spits up like crazy and still wants more after. I know a lot of it is comfort feeding right now because she's got sinus issues like everyone else in the house. Is there anything I can do instead, she can't stand the binky.....she spits it out.

Breastfeeding is more than just food. Sometimes they nurse more because they are building up your supply, or in need of comfort. I always nurse on demand. If she spit up the extra, no big deal   and bteasts are never 'empty', so if baby is nursing (even for comfort) they are still getting something! Eventually they stop spitting up
