re: Breastfeeding tips! & Top 10 BF problems solved!

I had someone get on my ass about it, I said I wanted to skip cereal and they got all huffy and puffy about how that's the only good way BF babies can get iron after 6 months. I said they have drops, they said that the babies body cant absorb those.

I just knew there was a way without giving him solids, hes almost 6 month but he doesn't seem interested in food.

Cereal is fortified with iron which is hard for them to absorb too, dark leafy green veg is the best natural source.

Almost 4 months breastfeeding! My doctor wants me to put DD on cereal a tablespoon 3 times daily because her acid reflux is horrible. She chokes on the acid that's comes up in her throat, it causes her to stop breathing for a few seconds, her whole face turns bright red, and her eyes water. This happens after almost every feeding. She is also puking up large amounts 4-6 times after each feeding.

I tried it today just to see if it would help and she took it off the spoon no problem at all, seemed to enjoy it. It definitely helped when I gave it to her after those 3 feedings she didn't puke at all, but her other feedings that she didn't get the cereal for she still puked.

We have tried 2 medications already (zantac and she's on prevacid right now) and I have eliminated dairy from my diet.

I really wanted to delay solids until at least 6 months but if the cereal is going to help her not be in pain I would think the benefits out weigh the risks. What would you do if it was your LO?

Btw she is a little over 3.5 months and weighs 10lbs6oz.

in your situation, it sounds like it is beneficial to her and helping with the problem, so I would continue it.

As with anything, weigh the benefits and risks. Starting solids around 6 months is recommended, BUT if there is a reason to start earlier that has benefits to your child that outweigh the benefits of delaying, you do what works for your child & the specific situation.

Hi all
I'm Stephanie. My son is 7 weeks old today. For his first 4 weeks of life, he was exclusively breast fed. Then I switched to mixed feeding, and am really regretting it. It did a lot of damage to my supply. Now I'm really working to try and go back to EBFing. This week I started taking fenugreek and drinking mothers milk tea. I'm on day two and already beginning to notice a little difference, so that gives me hope.
Do any of you wonderful breastfeeding mommas have any good tips for me? I'm pretty discouraged. Totally wish I'd never given him formula!

Drink lots of water and put him to the breast super often. It will come back.

the front page has tons of tips on increasing supply. basically putting him to the breast as often as possible is what will do it. you're also right in the middle of or just coming out of the 6 week growth spurt, so it could SEEM like your supply is lower than it actually is. check out the front page though. =D

Yes! Nurse as frequently as baby wants to nurse! Nursing on demand will help your milk come in

Yes. They get everything they need. Don't worry it will come. Mine came in on the 3Rd night. If you stick formula in the mix, it will interfere and make it take longer to come in.

The reason it is hard to ubsorb is the calcium, so .because you are supposed to use formula when making cereal it makes it tough. At least with the drops you can separate it away from a feeding. My son was on drops, but yes like another Mom said green veggies are best. There are other things as well as far as food that you can puree for your LO when you start solids.
