If he took a bottle okay, it sounds like a nursing strike. http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/back-to-breast/

It is a "hazard" of doing bottles, particularly introducing them before the 6 weeks they recommend, but can happen with any baby for a multitude of reasons. Make sure the bottles are the lowest flow nipple you can find. Something as simple as going to a fast flow nipple can cause trouble. See if you can stimulate letdown & then put him to the breast so there is instant gratification.

My older one went through this for short bit (short meaning weeks...so it felt long at the time). I'd get in a warm bath with him & just wait it out & he'd finally calm down & just latch.

I know it is tough. Read the link & try not to give bottles if you can help it. ;)

To me, EBF refers to exclusively breastmilk fed. So *I* would count pumping as EBF as well as nursing. The point of EBF is the benefits a baby gets from not having supplements. So as long as there are no supplements, it's EBF to me. However - I think exclusive pumping is very hard, so I see nothing wrong with making a point to say that is what a momma is doing or has done, as that is really hard & you deserve credit. ;)

Thank you. He finally latched on last night about midnight. But then at 2a started screaming for almost an hour. There was no comforting him, nursing, nothing. So dh gave him three oz. So he would finally go back to sleep....at 5, when my alarm goes off to get up for work. I to make it so where he gets as few bottles as possible. I nurse him before we leave in the mornings, he gets a bottle mid morning, I go nurse him on my lunch break. And then he gets two bottles between lunch and me getting off work, then I nurse him as soon as we get home.

Bah! I hate nights like that. I worked with #1 & I can even remember once going to work when I had not even been to sleep. It's awful.   I hope it all settles out soon momma.

as long as it's breastmilk, it's EBF IMO. Others have different definitions, but IMO it doesn't matter how it got there, breastmilk is breastmilk, you know?

Yesterday was much better. Nursed him at lunch with no problems. He ate so well he passed out in my arms. And after work he nursed like a champ. Ate 4 times before he was down for the night. I hope his strike is over for good and that was just a one time thing!

when you are in the hospital they give you cold water make sure you drink warm water. It's not the best tasting water in the world but it will help your milk supply. also never make quick oats in the microwave make on the stove top with boiling water and then add milk. you can add fruits if you don't like the taste of sugarless oats. no lettuce or orange juice or beans or soda. I was told that breast milk will not sit in the babies stomach so if the baby has not made a stool it's ok you can make a tea to help them along.

That's what i've been trying but if i go to put the boob up she has this huge fit. She isn't doing it as much now but when she does it still hurts.

I do think you are trying to be helpful, but there really is no need to eat a special diet to nurse well. The most important factor in milk supply is frequent nursing. You can drink cold water and eat lettuce & beans. There is no need to try to eat certain things or avoid others (other than maybe drugs & such). Even a glass of wine or a beer is fine.

You can read up on breastfeeding myths here: http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=27:myths-of-breastfeeding&catid=5:articles&Itemid=17

While I know you were trying to be helpful, you have to be careful that you don;t make nursing any more complicated for anyone unnecessarily, or it just makes it that much more unappealing for some moms.

I have used the Medela Starilizing bags but even on that bag it says its not needed and if you do it turns them really cloudy looking. Soak in warm soapy water and hang to dry!!

I hate the cloudy look!

I kept my bottle nipples "clean/clear" looking for 2 years and then my MIL was at the house and decided to "help" me by boiling all my bottle nipples and she made them all cloudy and I was not too happy about that.
