Cepacol cough drops okay?
posted 27th Feb '10
I'm 11wks pregnant & I've had a sore throat since Tuesday....finally went to the doctor for it yesterday because it's so bad I haven't even been able to eat! So anyway, it turns out it's strep throat & they've put me on antibiotics but they haven't really kicked in yet. My mother-in-law gave me a box of Cepacol cough drops to take but I'm not sure if I can take them while pregnant. My OB's office gave me a sheet of meds that are okay to take during pregnancy & it said cough drops & throat lozenges were okay but these specific ones have benzocaine in them....I'm not sure what that is & if it's safe or not. My OB's office is closed for the weekend so I just thought I'd see if any of you ladies knew if it was okay, otherwise I'll just stick w/ the regular cough drops.

Cepacol cough drops are the only ones I use. All they do differently is numb your throat a little. So that you can eat and drink without grimacing. They are fine to take. It is just local numbing.
