Anyone have any reviews on the Stroll Air Spider Duo???
posted 5th Jun
I am looking for a double stroller for my 10 week old and 13 month old. I was going to get the Peg Perego Duette SW, but I can't wait for it any longer. I would ultimately prefer a front and back double as opposed to a side by side. But I can't really find one that I like. Does anyone have any opinions on the Stroll Air Spider Duo??

It looks like a solid stroller (for a pretty penny though). I hadn't heard about it, till you posted, so I scanned my usual sources. This forum-review was all I could find:
Stroller Air Spider Duo Review.
Hope this helps!

Thank you very much Mara!!! That website was a huge help. I think that this is the stroller for me.

Thanks Mara. That website also helped me. This stroller is pretty expensive so I was hesitant to purchase without seeing it in person. If it helps anyone I did find it on Ebay for cheaper then anywhere else. I am waiting for mine to arrive. Will post a review once it is here.

I'd love to hear more about this stroller-- it looks to be a contender for one of the better high-end double stroller... so any reviews will be greatly appreciated!

So I received my Spider Duo, and this is what I think of it. It is a very nice looking stroller. It is very rugged, looks like it could last forever. The seats recline to a pretty much flat position. Which is good for sleeping infants. Excellent coverage from the sun shades. Lots of storage underneath. Folds up with the seats attached. I had a difficult time getting the seats off at first but after a couple of tries, it gets easier. It comes with mosquito netting, rain covers, an umbrella , wind protectors and two winter boots which look very cozy. And most importantly drives and maneuvers like a dream.
However here are the things that I didn't like about it. It is quite large and extremely bulky. I could never bring it into a store at the mall. I found the handle bar a little awkward. And it is extremely heavy. One thing that I liked about the stroller was that I could fold it with the seats on. But I could never get that into the back of my SUV without throwing my back out. With the seats, wheels and chassis, you are looking at almost 60 pounds.
So if you do alot of outdoor activities and own a minivan, I definately recomend this stroller. It really is beautiful. But if you are a shopping center/mall person with an SUV like I am, I don't think this is the stroller for you. Which is why I unfortunately am sending mine back. And onto the next one.........................

Oh no! I should have warned you about that... it is an inordinately heavy stroller (31 lbs if I remember correctly), but I assumed that was sort of the obvious point on this one. Sorry I didn't speak up sooner. Weight/bulk is one of those issues that after a point (with all the strollers I've reviewed) I find sort of obvious, because you can get the numbers right up front-- without even seeing it in real life. Once you start moving over the 15 lb mark, you will notice a certain percentage of consumers complaining about the weight and bulk of any stroller on the market.
Do you have any contenders for your next stroller?

I purchased my SA spider duo for my newborns twins in January 2006. It is comfortable and very pretty. The babies like it and can stay in it for hours.
However, the folding mechanism is located on the pushbar and is flimsy in design.
We live in Manhattan and some of the sidewalks are uneven. The small front wheels get caught and if you try to push through it, the stroller will fold up on you with the babies in it. This happened to me in July while they were in the bassinettes while crossing is busy Manhattan street. Luckily people came to the rescue but the boys could have been seriously injured.
I called SA and they replace the frame immediately. However this has happened again on several occassions. Now no one from SA will respond to my calls or emails.
I have to turn around and walk backwards through bumps like some Jackass. For a $1000 stroller this is absolutely unacceptable. Save your money and buy the Mountain Buggy or Valco. The SA is garbage.
We are now shopping for another stroller.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used SA spider duo. Cheap????

The VERY same thing happened to me! I tried to push through a railroad crossing section of sidewalk (I know it sounds careless, but the rut in the sidewalk was NOT that big), and the right side of the stroller just buckled. My infant miraculously slept through it, but the force of it all actually tipped my (unbuckled) two year old out of the stroller. It could have been horrible!
The right locking mechanism actually cracked and wouldn't lock into place again. I had to call Stroll Air and they replaced the frame at no cost to me. For such a heavy stroller with air filled tires and tons of sturdy metal parts, it has a major achilles heel so to speak. The flimsy plastic locking mechanism absorbs practically all the stress involved in going over bumps. I also often have to lift the front end of the stroller up in order to tackle curbs. (which I have to do a lot unless I decide to just walk in my neighborhood streets.....but I prefer the sidewalk for safety reasons). Once again, this puts stress on the locking mechanism.
I don't know what I'll do when the warranty runs out. I figure it would cost around $40 just to ship a replacement frame if it breaks down again when the warranty ends. The stroller really is great for walking or even jogging at a reasonable pace IF (and this is a big if) you are on level paved surfaces. If the road gets bumpy, I have to take it pretty gingerly and I resent that since I shelled out $800.

lpeiffer,
I'm assuming you are the same "twinmamma" who also wrote about this stroller collapsing on epinions. Hope to hear from you.
I"ll try to remember to check my email and then we can stay updated with the recall (there REALLY should be a recall of this stroller). I hope you at least get another frame from Stroll Air soon.

The spiderduo looks really wide! The duette is a monster, what are we going to do? Have you checked out the inglesina domino or the Jane powertwin? I am going crazy trying to decide.

I have the jane powertwin, and I love it. It is a good quality double. It is not too heavy, not too hard to get in and out of my SUV, and the front tire is easy to remove if you don't have alot of room in your car. I started with the spider duo and that just stays in my garage for walks around the block. My husband and I call it "the beast". It is an impossible stroller for someone on the go. I definately recommend the Jane, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
I have an 8 month old daughter and am pregnant with my second child. I have been looking into double strollers and have been wondering about the Stroll-Air, which I have not been able to find in NYC. These are the first reviews I have been able to find and they have helped sooo much. I live the side by side strollers so the two children can interact vs the front to back. Which brings me to a question: Does anyone have anything thoughts on the Mountain Buggy Double Strollers?

Have you considered the Phil and Teds with the doubles seat? I have the P&T for my 12 month-old, but since we plan to have another baby in a year or so, we bought this model (trying to plan ahead!). My son LOVES the ride, and it has been a great, do-anything stroller. We do have a couple of Maclarens for plane rides and some variety when we go shopping, etc., but I have to say, the P&T is perfect for strolls around the neighborhood, city streets, small shops AND transporting in the back of our smallish station wagon.
