1st u/s today..measuring 3 weeks behind.

This is my story...my lmp was on 12/19/09. My fertile period was between 01/02/10 - 01/07/10. My DH and I bd on Jan 2 and Jan 6. I got 3 different positive hpt on Jan 20/10 and confirmed by dr. on Jan 21/10. I went for a dating ultrasound today after prenatal check up. I am 8 weeks today and the ultrasound tech told me that I am only 5 weeks and some odd day pregnant. There is a gestional sac and yolk sac and she also told me that she can see the fetal pole. However, I know I am not wrong on my dates b/c I track my cycles in a journal faithly and know when I ovulated. Can anyone possibly explain this to me. My doc won't send me for another ultrasound for 3 more weeks. I definately know though that I am at least 8 weeks pregnant.

I can't tell you why that is, but according to my calculations I should be about 3 weeks ahead as well. But I'm not. I really don't know...

yeah they do that to alot of people!
when i was pregnant they give me different dates. Jan 18 Jan 22..
and its crazy! and they told me i was week behind and than they said i was farther along!

The only time I have heard of something like that is when there is a miscarriage about to occur. With my first pregnancy I should of been 10 weeks and I was measuring about 3 or 4 weeks behind. I hope everything okay and I hope at your next ultrasound the dates match up

I was told that u/s are off up to a week and as you get further along it only gets more off. As long as you have a gestational sac you are on the right road. I know its hard and VERY frustrating. However, in 3 weeks even if you are 5 weeks now they will be able to see the heart beat.
Keep positive and know that u/s machines are NOT 100% accurate.

Don't let it get to you. I had the same problem with my first. She always measured small. An I had at least 6 different edd's with her. I had her on my first edd. She was 2 wks- 4wks early according to my ob. She was 7lbs, 19ins, a normal healthy baby. My point is that your baby will come when they are ready an nt a minute sooner.

U/S can be off

U/s can be off, the anatomy scan around 18 weeks will be better to tell coz they measure the bones and whatnot

i really hope everything is okay! there are pretty much 3 differeto scenarios... one being the u/s is just inaccurate. two, you could just be measuring behind... or three, the baby could have stopped developing at 5 weeks. did you see a heartbeat? i know its tough when you aren't sure whats going on...

Thank you ladies for responding...I didn't see the heartbeat b/c the ultrasound tech told me that everything was too small yet and at 5 weeks you don't see the hb yet. I know I am correct with my dates b/c it was a planned pregnancy. I could see maybe a day or two. Not 3 weeks.

i'm hoping for the best for you! try and think positively.

I was stressed after my first u/s with this baby. The tech said I was 6 weeks and I figured 8. I know when I had my LMP and I even used the ovulation tests and knew when I ovulated. I didn't even get a picture because there was nothing really to see.

I had to come back in 2 weeks and get another u/s. She was measuring 8 weeks then. My due date was changed from June 5th to June 18th. I thought for sure at my 20 week they would be changing my due date back, but she was measuring exactly what they said then too.

So, I was bummed that I had to add 2 weeks to my due date-but I'll take it!  
I have no idea why it happened this way, but it worked out.

Ultrasounds can be off, even in the first trimester. And you could have ovulated late, or ovulated twice and missed the first ovulation, got pregnant the second one.

Just wait a few weeks until the corrected gestational age is old enough to get the heartbeat and see what happens.
